the mysterious switch (pic included)

Hi there,

Any clue what this switch and this socket could be for?


The switch is an on/off switch and it seems you can switch it on only when the head lights are on.

Switching it on/off does not seem to change anything on the instrumentation, nor any of the outer lights seem to change.

At its right there is a sort of socket with 3 contacts. The button on it is in reality just a cap and does nothing.

Both things are clearly an addition but I have no clue what they could be for. Nor the previous owner was of any help.

Any ideas?

that switch is for the rear fog light, they're a legal requirement in the UK. yours doesn't seem to have a separate light unit on the rear bumper, so it may make the 2 inner brake bulbs illuminate instead.

the thing to the right is an alarm touchkey receiver. usually used with an immobiliser, but can also be used to disarm an alarm if your remote fob is broken.

That's an odd place for a fog switch, mine's up beside the front fog switch.

I've a switch around there but it's for the parking sensors...

The touchkey is missing, as are the second copy of the alarm remote and the second key of the car. I'll need to do something about it but I guess that will be another newbie post - I promise I'll search the forums first
