heaters blowing cold

Postby 3fto » Sun Dec 05, 2010 11:10 pm

Please help, my problem is the heaters in my fto never warm up. I've change the water pump, thermistat, presure cap, flushed the radiator and all connecting pipes. the top hose gets warm as does the top of the radiator but the bottom hose stays cold, the temperature gauge reads as it should and the fans never cut in, please help as any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. :(

are any of the pipes collapsing? is carpet in the footwels wet?if not sounds like an airlock in the cooling system, easiest way is to jack up the font of the car so the rad cap is nice and high(secure with axle stands obviously)take rad cap off, make sure the engine is cool first, bring the engine to normal operating temp, get someone to keep your revs at about 2000rpm while you pump the rad hose by hand, this should help force the trapped air out of your cooling system(you'll see the bubbles),this should allow the water flow through your heater matrix and give you heat and alolow your fan to kick in>

I'm having the same issue. Replaced the temp sensor not too long ago too. I'll give this a shot soon and I'll see how I get on.

i usually interchange between the 2 to make sure you get to all the trapped air

The rad cap is the highest point on the cooling system so any air should rise to that point.
I reckon you either have a blocked heater matrix or your heater controls are not opening the necessary mixing damper to let hot air in.
Check the pipes on the matrix to see both are hot (with car at normal working temp).
