Tyre size choice

Postby Viper » Thu Oct 05, 2006 4:21 pm

Quick question lads...

Currently run Eagle F1 215/40-17's running on 8in rims and am thinking of sizing up in order to improve the ride quality. What is the size people in the know would recommend, would a move up in profile or width (or both) be the best solution?

8" rims... I've heard that the 215s can be a bit stretched if you use 8" wide wheels, so I'd say an increase in width would probably be a good thing.

I've Evo 8 Enkeis on mine, with 235/40/17 tyres, and they seem about right. Half decent rim protection which is always good.

I would run 215/45 or 225/45 if you could get it - 235/40 as per kev is also a good fit and would be more comfortable - all will likely have a little rubbing at full lock if you have a lowered car.

The 215 will look streched on an 8inch rim but you'll need to have a good offset - circa 32-35 I would say to help prevent rubbbing on a wider again tyre/rim. I have 215's streched over an 8.5 inch rim - would ideally like 235/40's but they just won't fit without rubbing and I'm running a 32 offset on a lowered FTO.

Well firstly the car isn't lowered so the problem of rubbing should be okay. Also (and no doubt a dodgy decision) it'll only be the rear wheels which will be increased - I only need one pair for now so am doing a more long term increase in size!
