...selling up that is. Must be the 5 year itch combined with folks looking for a change. 3 or 4 years ago we all had a lot less money in our pockets (apparenetly - I seem to have less these days!), at the time, the FTO was a reasonably affordable performance buy. Now it seems folks are trading up to newer performance cars or family saloons (kids happen after all!).

How will the new generation of FTO owners differ from the old I wonder?

It does seem that everyone is selling up  just as I'm getting back into the saddle. I guess at the start of the new year it's a common enough time to change car, combined with the "flood" of SSIA money to help things along.

at the time, the FTO was a reasonably affordable performance buy.

Still relatively cheap, was just looking on carzone, a few sub 5k cars available and more just above that mark, perhaps people are just put off by the age.

Well it will never attract the starbo/levin crew due to running cost and high insurance -thankfully (one of the only flip sides of excessive insurance!)

Its probably down to the increasing age of the FTO's - and the increasing cost of having to run a 12/13 year old car as your daily driver. My Zed is costing me less to run than the FTO purely because I don't need to start replacing bushes, dampers, belts, water pumps, cambelt, electrical items etc etc etc on a fairly regular basis. Most people won't even go to these lengths to preventatively maintain their car so they are left with an FTO that is just a shadow of the car it could be.

I hope that the FTO becomes a small cult car similar to what the AE86 Corrolla (GT coupe) is today. You need to be passionate about your cars to keep a 10-13 year plus performance car on the road.

I've owned 2 FTO's to date though - and I wouldn't be at all surprised if I own a 3rd or 4th.

i bet youll see fully reconditioned ftos appearing soon, the bodywork on modern cars dont rust, imagine some specialist fully reconditioning the engine , gearbox and suspension, i'd buy one!! plus the fto has classic lines that will never date!

Do they still make FTOs? Like is there such a thing as a '07 FTO or are they after totally changing the shape like the '06 Skyline did?

They stopped making them in 2000 and I can't see a replacement coming anytime soon, especially after 9/11.... Foreign Terrorist Organisation...

Seems that all the major (Jap) manufacturers have pulled out or are pulling out of that market i.e. the~2L 2+2 coupe.
Mitsi stopped making the FTO with no replacement in sight.
Honda have stopped making the prelude AFAIK -last one looked like a dogs dinner anyway.
Toyota have stopped making the celica and MR2
Nissan silvia/200sx not sold on this side of the pond.
Come to think of it, the market for new coupes of this type (not just jap ones) seems to have dried up quite a bit....
