Warning light

Postby Toff McKiney » Thu Dec 08, 2005 2:58 pm

Lads,

I've just bought a 95 FTO - had it a week and already I've a warning light on the dash - don't know if its tip box related or not - it flashes on and off and I can't make out the symbol yet.

Muad is the authority on warning lights around here.

Perhaps he could advise.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Wasn’t the G sensor introduced on 95 cars?

Does it come on when you accelerate or break hard?

where abouts on the dash is the light? left, right, top, bottom?

Is it the orange light on the top right? That'd be the g-force alright...

Sorry for the delay lads.

That's definately a G meter!

Just out of interest where did you pick up your FTO? - Did they have any more?

Would you be interested in parting with the G-Meter?

I'll pay top dollar$ as they're quite rare.. see previous threads on this site!

welcome to the site btw.

PS. I'm not sure what SOC is talking about when he suggests it's NOT a G meter. Clearly it is. Perhaps he's forgotten the many mod available for the FTO when he strarted driving a Golf instead. ;-)

Picked up my FTO at a dealer in Dublin - Michael Fogarty - got a good deal - 8K got a 2 litre with a 6 month warranty - only 30K miles.

Not sure the G meter is working alright - I'll take it for a quick blast in a while and see how I get on - if it works ok I'm sure we can come to some arrangement.

Mate, not wanting to cause any hassle but I'm not sure I'd stake my life on the milage - Fogerty was shown up on Prime Time last monday for clocking a Merc - dropped the milage from 140K(ish) to 80K(ish).

30k sounds very low for a 10 (almost 11) year old car

But sure if it's running sweet then who cares, right

Roads are always mucky down here in Bailegodeireadh.

I've bigger problems to worry about though - I'll think I'll take the car for a spin and try work out what light it is.

Don't know really - How does €300 sound? I don't really see the advantage myself - Are they easy to take out - what bits do I need to remove?

He seemed like a sound bloke - said he'd done a bit of work on the car - timing belt and clutch etc.

Seats aren't in good condition though - is there any way to fix the side yokes when they go flat?

I reckon the g-meter is playing up cause there's too much moisture in the air....

I'm not very technically minded so I asked a mechanic mate of mine and he said this probably isn't the issue. He asked me maybe if there was a leak in the head??

I'll maybe get my boyfriend to check it out over the weekend and get back to ye then.

I'm lost for words  ..

MyFeckin FTO -> If there's too much air in the head the car wouldn't drive properly..In fact you probably wouldn't have been able to get it out of the dealers yard..Only if you have the right amount of air in the head will you be able to start an FTO and drive out of the dealership.
There!

It could be the moisture in the air alright - water & muck in the air are factors that might set off the gmeter This is located at the bottom of your windscreen.

Also there's a little sensor attached to both the heater & the gmeter - if this get's covered with a bit of muck it could set off the g-meter.. This is easily fixed though - make sure you keep your windscreen clean at all times.

If the sensor is broken you could be needing a specialist tool to fix it - I'm currently on the lookout for one to add to my collection. All authorised mitsi dealer have them though - so if worst come to worst you'll be able to get it sorted there. Wont be too expensive either.

What does this specialist tool look like ? How big is it? I wouldn't mind getting a look at yours when you get hold of it.

My boyfriend is coming over after lunch to take a look so I'll probably know more then.

whats "gentlemanly"....... :r

Toff, yeh shouldn't drive the car until you get this sorted - the gmeter may trigger abs if it mistakenly decides yer going too quick in the twisties - the result could be excess scrubbage of all rubbers and a trip to the ditch :smt100

Thanks for all the help lads.

I rang the dealers (Michael Fogarty) to ask him what the problem was and he said to bring it in for a look.

Said he was going to call me anyway cause he needed to adjust something on the car??
