knocking noise

there is a knocking noise coming from the front of the car when i put the foot down or break hard..what could this be...

Are your wheel nuts tight?
Other usual causes for knocking would be the droplinks, possibly brake pads rattling about (but I guess not under braking).
Is it a constant knocking or just a knock or two?

This is a long shot 
but it's a known problem that the bonnet hold up arm can rattle against the chasis, causing a knocking or rattle noise when driving - It was quite loud and noticeable in mine. Check it out here:
