Five released in inquiry into Louth attack (What the F*%k)!!

Postby Marie » Fri Mar 13, 2009 11:55 am

Gardai have released without charge five males arrested in connection with serious assaults on two couples and the alleged rape of one of the women in county Louth early on Tuesday morning.

In all five teenagers and a 23 year old man, all from Lithuania, were quizzed about the assaults at Townley Hall near Drogheda. One was arrested on Tuesday and released later that day.

Gardai now believe that an iron bar as well as a crowbar and possibly a golf stick were used in the altercation.

Gardai are satisfied that both couples were physically assaulted and the two women and one of the men remained in hospital tonight.

One of the women recognised one of the alleged gang members in the emergency department of the Lourdes hospital yesterday morning.

Gardai from the divisional scenes of crime examination unit remained at Townley Hall today, where they worked their way through trees and undergrowth.

The car the couples were in when they were attacked has been technically examined as has a car the gang are believed to have travelled in; the latter was seized in the car park of the Lourdes hospital on Tuesday and was examined today.

Even experienced gardai have been taken aback at the degree of brutality and violence used and the local community in Tullyallen and Drogheda are in shock that such horror could take place and particularly on their doorstep.

A garda spokesman tonight confirmed those arrested had been released without charge and said a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

How the hell??? :x

This story has caught my attention in recent days and it is absolutely sick. Every aspect of it just make me cringe and shudder with disbelief. Was this gang lying in wait? Or did they follow the couples? In either case premeditated (or so it would seem) gang rape. What is the world coming to. One of the attackers was being detained -only because he was wanted on a seperate charge. These lads are late teens early 20's presumably have no ties with the area (kids, house, mortage, etc) Doubtless they were (or will be on) the first Ryanir flight back home. End of story.
The Indo quoted one witnes as saying the inside of the car looked like an abattoir.

I'd regard the justice system as being just as culpable if these scum are let go. Nothing short of the death penalty would satisfy me in this scenario.

Some (the Limerick crew) may recall a similar incident in Cratloe woods a few years back. I really loose faith in human nature when I hear about such things. This makes 'deliverence' look like a disney film.

It's like a scene from a Saw horror! The justice system is seriously f*%cked up! It's hard to believe why anyone would ever do something like that? Thoses poor kids they attacked! Their poor family!

You'd forgive the familys for extracting some retribution - especially the family of the girl who was raped. If that was my daughter I would gladly do time and the guys responsible would suffer long before I'd finish them.

They gave that particular girl the option of being shot, take a beating with a crow bar or be raped!!! She took the crow bar!!

It's unbelievable that they have been released, especially for such a serious crime and as said above they'll more than likely be winging their way home by the time the DPP even reviews the case!

More on this
What the hell are the guards doing. :smt013
This country is a joke, in so many repects, financial, corruption etc. But this brings complacency to a new level. If these guys walk, it's as bad a reflection on us as a country for letting them away with it as it is on them for commiting the act in the first place. I dispair.

I won't respond to this thread except to say that if either of these girls were related to me I'd do time for what I'd do to these "suspects". No punishment would be too severe IMO.

Every day my hatred for the backwardness of this country grows. It's being run by a shower of muppets and there is SFA we can do about it because the same retards keep voting these people in to government.

I've had candidates call to my door a lot recently, I just tell them not to even bother as I don't trust any of them. I only vote in referendums because they are the only thing that will directly affect me.

I remember the cratloe incident, and I bet those who did it are still walking around in our country today.

I'm all for the death penalty, bring it on.

Here's a thought. It seems the IRA are back in business, whether you agree with their politics or MO, it is not important. The reality is they have the knowledge and expertise to excercise some justice in this matter. Plus it would be a major PR coo for them.
There is no justice that will (or probably not) be served by the state, that will be in equal measure to the crime, and satisfy the public appetite.
Accepting that this country is a basket case and will not serve justice I believe we should seek to persue retribution through any channels possible. Please no comments about how they are a product of their disadavantaged (assumed) upbringing, and how society failed them  Get on to your relevant councillor and ask him what he's going to do about it.
Speaking personally I'd be happy with a good old fashioned double knee capping and castration across the board.

To put this is context. If your neighbours dog bites you (i.e. behaves like an animal, which it is!) you can have it put down. When a human behaves like an animal they are detained for a night and set free.

One of that Shell to sea campaign (female) crew was jailed for 21 (or was it twenty eight) days for allegedly slapping a guard in the face. Again compare the crime with the punishment. We are living in a banana republic

I am appauled and disgusted to read of such a horrific scene. Can't begin to describe the anger this makes me feel, worst of all is that staying within the bounds of the law there is nothing we can do about this scum! I'm sure the arresting officers of the Gardai are feeling just as horrified as we are and powerless in the fact that they do not have sufficient grounds to detain the suspects.
Unfortunately even if punished to the full extent of the law no penalty within the bounds of our justice system is severe enough for the perpetraitors of such a barbaric crime.
Rapists should be castrated.
As the suspects are Lithuanian our government let these men through our borders!!! One would suspect the perpetraitor of such a crime would have some sort of criminal record in their home nation??? feck animals!

There are a lot of diverse issues impacting people in this country, pension levy on lower paid PS workers, rising unemployment across private sector (and soon I suspect PS), higer taxes coming, upper echelon of banking sector walking free despite the obvious corruption, etc, etc.

But the one common thread is a growing dissatisfaction with the way this country is run. It's time we all came together, regardless of specific issue, and give a message to all those people currently running this country into the ground (government, ineffective opposition, local councillors, etc)

Would everyone on this board be willing to attend a general protest march if one was organised? Would you all be willing to do something to voice your frustration?

Plenty of protests have been held already, noone listens!

I read in the paper once a convicted rapist kicked the crap out of some poor lad, who was in a coma for two months got a 4 year suspended sentance. Another lad I know withness a murder and gave his statement to the guards, later to have a gun held to his head and told all his family would be killed if he opened his mouth, later the trial came and the guards were fully aware of the position he had been put in, so when he had no other choice other than say he couldn't remember he was charged with perjury, and giving a 6 month sentance. This lad had never been in trouble a day in his life, just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time! His 6 month sentance caused him to loose a job he'd been in 15 years, and loose his house, due to his wife not beening able to support their mortgage bills on her own! His kids had to visit him in prison on fathers day.

And yes people will stand up and say well he should have told the truth but more than likely if he did the guys who murdered would only get 7 years tops, and come get him when they were out. Many might say he took the cowards way out, in my eyes he did the bravest thing possible by protecting his family. If there was proper actions put in play to protect withness he would not have had to commit perjury.

And don't get me started about this mornings paper and the guards beening on certain payrolls.

Suggest the mods split this one from SOC's post onward Before it decends into a completely off topic discussion about the general state of the country.

When the time comes to do anything no one does, protest or not, this place is turning into a communist country fast. One main reason I'm getting out of it quick is that its making me madder living here every day, (and the fact theres no work of course!!), I see the crap we put up with and nobody does anything about it. Time comes for election and they put it on mid-week, get the old people to vote after buttering them up with lies and rubbish. Look at a pic in the paper the other day, brian coward and his posse of losers were in limerick, all the old biddies were weak at them all and everyone having a laugh and a joke, claps on the back, the works, oh the best of mates, makes me cringe.

My daughter met him, he came for dinner in the St Munchins Community Centre, my sister is manager above, raging I was at work. But when a 9 year old asked him if she could get that life saving vac when she's 12 he just turned his head and ignored her, next question please?

Yes, plenty of protests but mostly small scale. And some were successful - look a the older generation and the medical card fiasco. That generation know the value and impact a peaceful protest can have.

You have to force them to listen - 500k people on the streets around the dail would make them sit up and take notice.

I think this is very different to what I am taking about - a different "specific" (and OT) problem that the Gardai need to address.
