Very very bad news!

Ok lads,

Just back from the mechanics there. New bushes in place and the car is like new to drive as regards handling etc. but when the car was on the stand a bad problem reared its head....

There's an aftermarket invidia exhaust on my FTO. The mechanic took one look and said thats damaged badly......

The whole pipe between the Cat and the Backbox is completely rusted with holes in it and its been patched up before. He said the rest of it is in pretty good nick but that pipe has got to be replaced and he's expecting it to cost quite a bit for new parts......

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do besides replacing the entire exhaust system (unless that's a feasible option)? How much would I be looking at? Where should I start looking? And if I was to replace the entire exhaust anyone got some good (reasonably priced) suggestions?

Well to keep the look of the car I would like to replace it with a fairly decent system.....Don't know if I fancy paying up to 600 pounds tho

Unless you can get a good secondhand example exhaust (Steelroe etc) - then your only real option is a Cat back replacement.

Personally - I'd go with the blueflame -

Alternatively - you may be able to find someone who has recently gone from a standard FTO exhaust to an aftermarket exhaust but this will really just be a short term option as theres very little OE exhausts left in good nick.

The single exit is cool I like that one and it's probably worth the money. It's actually not that expensive. Thing is would I pass an NCT with one of those?

Choice of exhaust I think depends on how loud you'd like it. Mongoose do a twin exit (like OEM Mitsi one), or single large exit (5 inch iirc) which is supposed to be one of the quieter ones, while still sounding well.

There's Blitz I think it is that is pretty loud, and a few others that don't come to mind.

One of the great things about the FTO, was only made for the Jap market, but there's still plenty aftermarket parts available for it over here.

Steelroe has a lovely quad for sale at reasonable money, nice upgrade as it looks like you have to change anyway...

I don't want anything mad loud, I prefer a quieter one. The one I have was quiet enough but still shows off the power of the car. The Gardai are clamping down hard in Longford on boy racers (even though I'm not one of them) with loud exhausts etc and I don't want to spend a lot of money only to have to replace it again. And will a car pass an NCT with a large exhaust? I've heard that my car could fail because of the large aftermarket exhaust. As it is the car will fail anyway so something has to be done but I'm confused to say the least!!!

I've never actually got to hear one in the flesh, but from what I've heard/read the Mongoose would fit the bill.

The Invidia you had would be much louder than a blueflame or mongoose exhaust.

The quad one I have is no different sound wise to the standard exhaust

THey cannot fail you if the emissions coming out the back end are within spec.

The Invidia was actually surprisingly quiet considering it was a 5"

Going to look into it so. I'm probably better off completely replacing the Cat back system so rather than just the middle section. Thanks lads!

I've been really happy with my mongoose setup.. the noise levels are definately acceptable - but there is a nice roar to it when you stick the foot down..

Lookswise I don't think you can beat the Blueflame quad.. -Yummeh!

So its a definite choice between the blueflame and the mongoose then. How much am I looking at if I go down the Mongoose route? I like the look of both of them and they are both highly recommended...

At the min I'm a long way off being rich so what would be the best value for money? Ricerocket don't list their prices!
