chip

Postby zacob » Thu Mar 24, 2005 6:21 pm

Was scrolling through the FTO archives to find any info on how to chip an FTo. I was wondering:
is it possible to chip an FTO?
does it increase fuel consumption and what is the increased bhp.
What price does it cost.

Does anyone have any feedback good or bad!!

Zacob, search the forum for 'chip', there are plenty of past threads on the subject.

IMHO (and I've said it before) - you'd be wasting your time and money. You won't get much more power out of the FTO's V6 without spending big bucks because the engine is already so highly tuned.

Your best bet is to stick on a good induction kit, cat back exhaust with decat and the noise will make you grin from ear to ear everytime the revs rise -

FWIW (and IMHO) chipping an N/A car is not really worth the effort and/or expense if you ask me - the most you'll get is 10-15bhp not matter what any tuning companies say and you'll hardly notice that on the road.

Zacob,
If you are interested in tuning you might want to check out this link http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... php?t=1722

I think that piggyback ECU's/Tuning etc will only come into its own and make any sense once you have sorted the other bits - Decat Exhaust/ Induction / Manifold & Downpipes / Fuel Pressure Regulator / Iridium plugs etc - Only then will altering the standard Mitsi settings give any real gains.

As Shane said - Decat exhaust and induction kit is a good start - not mad gains but it will certainly sound a hell of a lot better.

I think thats bull to say that u can;t get more out the fto.Right now my car is running well full exhaust, full intake, lighten flywheel extractor, clutch, lsd diff. All now new type rs are nothing i beat them and the 1800s all the time.Running 14 flat on aspirated set up on normal gas and on race 13.8 and thats street tune if i had some sort of chipped ecu or management i don;t know how quick my machine would be.I keep up with evos and subs i pass them i have no respect for them. All now i have a nice shiny t4 ball bearing turbo home and intercooler and i am dropping that on to run on my standard compression probably a 10 pound when racing 5 pounds normal driving and i want to see what will catch me then.

There is no way an NA FTO will pass an EVO!

Even a turbo'd FTO wouldn't manage that.

Dastek do a piggy back chip which wil work well with your current mods, but if you add a turbo you will need a fully programmable ECU.

Sorry, but I'm in agreement here, you're talking about a 4WD with serious power and handling capabilities. Stage 1 mods on an FTO produce a small increases (5%), stage 2 about the same, and stage 3 30-40%. Even at the latter state of tune, an FTO will struggle to get near an EVO. Dwayne, if you think you can take an EVO, I'd love to see your dyno print out!

i would really like to see the dyno on this, even with all those mods and at that you'd be lucky to even see 250bhp! and there's no way you'd keep with scoobies and evo's!
i'd also like to see these 1/4 mile times!

Actually the point I was making was it would cost a lot of money to get any worth while increases from the FTO (below)

shane wrote:You won't get much more power out of the FTO's V6 without spending big bucks because the engine is already so highly tuned.

The question asked was would it be worth it be worth chipping an FTO and the fact is that, unless you are going to spend a lot on other mods too, the gains you get would be minimal (especially when compared to the cost).

I'm sure if you throw enough money at any engine you can get big increases in power.....

And FWIW, I'm in agreement with the others - I'd find it hard to believe an NA FTO (even with your mods) would come close to an Evo or even a bog standard (non-import) WRX. You're talking about finding an extra 100 (or so) bhp, (not to mention the missing torque). I'd also be interested to see the RR printouts and the official 1/4 times

Firstly i never said i passed the evo hard as crap to do that i said the subaru.Subaru are crap and when i said i passed it i was not talking about a drag was talking about fooling around on the high way and we both were pushing. I don;t know what u guys may say or think but i know my fto is not as standard as it may think. My fto came with some ralliart badge on the computer,my fuel return line is blocked off also came with the lsd.My fto weighs 1090kgs others that are here weigh 1190 and 1210.Evos are a dream though. No way i can come close to any modified evo for sure.I was mainly keeping up to a standard evo 7.

there's an easy way to sort all of the talk out Dwayne, just post some pics along with your dyno reports and the quarter mile times you were going on about.
