[Wanted] Cheapish Back box or cat back system £100 mark

Postby tiernan63 » Tue May 19, 2009 6:42 pm

Hi,

Just thought i'd throw this out there.
I'm after a nice noisy back box or cat-back system, 2nd hand obviously. Looking to pay as little as possible for it but depending on the quality of the piece i'm willing to stretch to around £100 if anyone has one lying about. Been searching ebay but most appear to be across the water and pick up only which is a bit of a drag.

Its for a 95 GR tip by the way.. in case that makes any difference to the fitting (not 100% sure).

Leave me a PM or some pics anyway if there's anyone with one and i'll get back to you asap.

Thanks lads,

Tiernan.

Even a standard system in good condition would go for a lot more than that.

For just the back box  Did anyone buy it? Glad I asked this question as I have one myself in good condition going spare, since I fitted my Blueflame system. :D

Contrary to what you may believe I have seen many go for slightly above the £100 mark on ebay.. as i'm scouring it constantly for a cheapie... :)

I came across this today, with a buy it now price of £80. However it doesnt appear to be a HKS super dragger back box as described, and looks like some sort of botch job. Once i emailed him about it he removed the Buy it Now option

It looks like it might need some modification though anyway so i'll bide my time for another cheapie and email anyone breaking an fto on ebay. You never know :)

You're looking for a cat-back system, that's just a backbox.

He did say either or in the title of his post  There are bargains to be had if your willing to play the waiting game. I myself am on the hunt for a set of enkeis like Berno's, missed out a couple of times on ebay. slowly slowly catchy monkey, as they say.

OP make sure the backbox you get fits a GR. I'm pretty sure GPX and GR backboxes are different.

I was waiting for ages, all I wanted was one but they were usually around £100.
Got 4 delivered in the end for €200.

No tyres but they would have been the wrong profile anyway.
The wheels came off an Evo8 so they would have been 45s and I'm using 40s.

Yes but I already had the same wheels on (with 40s) and there's some scrubbing on full lock.
45s would have made that worse, not to mention they'd be different to what's already there, symmetry and all that.

Would I be right in saying you now have 3 spare Enkeis With/without tyres? If so would you consider selling?

You would, You'd need to collect them but if that's OK you can have them for what I paid.
If you want one or two that's fine too (spares are handy).

Okay, I've an update on this, and I'd like your opinions and advice if possible on this. I've chosen to go down the Apexi N1 back box route and get the inlet pipes made up to match it to the current centre section.
Performance isn't really an issue here as I'm happy with the GR spec and i'm not looking the best performance part.

Question: Does anyone know offhand the diameter of the inlet pipe to the back box of a GR?
This will influence the choice of the 2 N1 mufflers I will purchase as one has an inlet of 60mm and the other 75mm. I was thinking of going for the 75mm just to be on the safe size in case the inlet is big.
60mm inlet:

75mm inlet:

I did however come across this HKS superdragger in Japan (Yahoo Japan auctions) but i haven't the patience to wait a few months for it to be shipped :smt003

Once again, thanks for any help in advance fellas.

you know the inlet for the standard backbox is on the passenger side and the outlet is on the drivers side, right?

Yep, but what i want to do is run a pipe across from the current centre pipe, over to the passenger side where i'll mount the back box at an angle to the current exit.

I just want to know the current inlet pipe diameter so I can keep it the same until it reaches the back box, rather than fitting any old pipe on.

Anyone???

If loud is what you're after, the Apexi N1 is certainly the right choice!

Can't help on pipe diameter, one of the other guys can confirm.

Yeah, loud would be nice. I'm due to graduate for uni soon and i'm just finished my course, so if i can get some sort of employment going I fancy having a go at making some sort of throttle control valve or butterfly valve for the exhaust.

Something like a spring loaded butterfly valve with a wire attachment to the throttle cable. Once i get the exhaust work sorted and a job (all being well) I'll have some time to tinker with the idea.

They're quite expensive new so if i go ahead with it and it works i'm flying :)
