Urgent water pump/good mech in Cork

Postby Masa » Wed Jul 09, 2008 12:13 pm

HI there,

so after less than 2000 kms with me the water pump is gone.
It's that for sure as the car is overheating a lot and the water leaking just beneath the belt ...

I'm asking steelroe if he has one and if he doesn't I'll quickly order one from camskill.

But do you know a good mechanic in Cork who can do this ??
I really need it to be sorted as soon as possible and I can't do without the car this week, leavign at 25 km from work and finishing my shifts at 12 00 :s

Another quick question, I have a GS, will this water pump be ok ?

help ?

I'm goign to order on camskill and ask them to send it asap.

But will there be a garage in Cork to do it for a reasonable price and quickly ?

If it can be sorted on the WE it will be perfect !

Do the timing belt & tensioners, etc too while you're at it, the belt would need to come off to remove the water pump so you might as well renew it as well.

I'm afraid I don't know any good mechanics in Cork, asked a guy who used to work in a Mitsi dealer before but he wasnt interested.

Give Mike a ring in Camskill - he will ensure that the Timing belt and waterpump are the correct items and that he has them in stock to be shipped today.

a quick update,

I've drove the car from Cobh to Cork as I have to give to the mech at 9, and no overheating this morning ... The temp never went above half the gauge...

I checked once arrived, and no loss of water... Though I clearly saw it leaking ( quite quickly ) from the water pump the other day ..

Can a water pump auto repair itself ? Or maybe it was dying but not totally dead and today is a good day?

I'm going to change it anyway today but that's weird ...

Nice one! The waterpump isn't going to sort itself, if it leaks at all better safe than sorry. Did he do the belts and tensioners and all for that money?

yep, for 200 he changed the water pump, tensioner and ALL the belts.

So I think it's relaly a fair price for a regular garage, and it really seems to be properly done.

So if you need something you can go there, he's in the marina Commercial Park.

Maybe we can ask for an FTO club discount :p

I've drivent it this evening to test and be sure and the temp is back to normal :) And the annoying noise from the old alternator belt has gone as well :)
