Ah FFS!!!

Postby optical illusion » Fri Jun 06, 2008 9:49 pm

Feels like I'm never going to get this car on the road. Tax was up last Nov so applied for tax which was subsequently refused because the car is not registered in my name. He posted the reg. form Tue so should have gotten to them by now...

Anyways (grrr) do I have to go into my tax office with the form when I receive it in the post and they give me the disc (btw they don't give out discs normally, apparently they do in Nenagh), or does it have to be re-processed all over again, or do I just ring them and they'll have a record or what?

FFS!!!!!

ring the Dept. of the Environment in Shannon (061) 365000. and ask them if the change of ownership has been processed. (be prepared to either have to re dial loads of times, and when you actually get through, be prepared to wait)
If it has been processed, and the car is in your name, then the tax office will usually process a tax application, as long as you have your certificate of insurance.

They will also accept a Vehicle Registration Certificate with a completed change of ownership in your name along with the tax application (in case you're ever in this situation again and want the quickest way)

I have been waiting over a month for some changes of ownership to be processed in Shannon. all incoming mail is scanned in the Dept, so they can conform that they received it, even if they haven't processed it yet.

Update:

Rang office in Shannon, put through straight away. (hah Colm, must be a girl thing )

Car is now registered in my name - woohoo!

Rang tax office in Clonmel - won't reprocess as they've sent out my apllication form to me. So have to reapply. Hopefully I'll have her by the end of the week!

Clonmel are pretty quick in issuing discs. So yay!

Now to ring Quinn and ask for an extension in my insurance transference...

*is excited*

You have 10 days to produce your road tax anyway if stopped by the gardai. So DRVIE ON, not your fault the Dept od Enviro is holding up the transfer.

I'm with Rory here. As I said, I had the same issue with mine when I got it first, and got pulled. Explained the situation and there was no problem. The car is registered in your name now too officially, so if they go as far as lookin up your plate (Probably won't be ar$ed), they will see your name and can confirm the recent change in ownership! :D

Yeah but what if I get a garda that's on their period? LEGALLY, you shouldn't be driving without a tax disc. I've waited this long and extended my insurance now anyway, I may as well wait till the end of the week.
