Jap car magazines

Postby CJ » Wed Jan 05, 2005 11:28 am

My 'Japanese Performance' subscription in up for renewel and I don't know whether to continue with if for another year or switch to 'Banzai'. JP is a good mag with some decent feature cars, I feel its less 'bling' and more 'mechanical' than Banzai but I havn't read the latter in ages. What jap car mags do you guys read and how would you rate them?

I read both of them - the quality of the content can range quite a bit from month to month. I wouldn't bother with a subscription to either - I like just being able to thumb through both copies at the shop and buying the one that appeals more - and sometimes that means I buy both if they've something of interest to me.

I used to buy a lot of magazines, (computer, car & football mags before anyone suggests anything more, em, unbecoming!! ) but I eventually came to the conclusion that pretty much everything is available on the web anyway, and you just end up with a pile of stuff you read once and throw away.

I guess not quite the same as having the mags but I don't have any less info and a good few quid more in my pocket... (jeez am I getting old?? :? )

my subscription has run out on both, I find that with the recent ones I have only spent about 10 minutes flicking throught them, Jap Performance tend to focus on more high powered cars, and I have forgotten the last time I saw a FTO in either of them :(

I've still got the last 3 or 4 editions of Jap performance and Banzai that featured FTO's - think a couple of these guys are on the UK FTO site. Makes for interesting reading but I would still like to see a lot more features on them - Scoobys, Evo's and Skylines seem to be the main fodder on offer.
