Torque convertor problem - Urgent help please

Postby MR. FTO GR » Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:41 pm

Hi All,

It seems my torque convertor has gone bang bang !
Car doesnt select gears just revs!

I can get a new gearbox for a good price but my question is ..... 'is the torque convertor part of the gearbox or is it seperate?'

Thanks

Ben

Right just found out its a seperate item but is attached to the gearbox.

I have just brought a gearbox with the convertor attached going to collect tonight (has 3months warrenty too) and get it fitted tomorrow.

What a pain in the a***

It was my own fault as i was on a nice clear motorway and the car was maxxed lol

The TC is definetely the a weak componant on the 4-speed tip box, ofetn its much cheaper just to replace the box itself.

Out of interest, when was the last time the gearbox oil and filter was changed? Are you prone to regular spirited driving?

I changed the gearbox fluid / filter about 8 months ago and only recently changed the filter again :(

I dont do that many miles but once a week a do about a 2hr trip down the motorway. If the road is clear i will put my foot down abit but only when its safe!

I purchased a now gearbox with torque convertor today ... its quite heavy and going to be a right pain to fit im sure!

Has anyone changed one before? is it difficult? (Im quite handy with the tools)

Problem is my car is on the driveway and will need it towed to garage which is going to cost me more
