Thinking of selling...

Postby sinlessgunner » Mon May 26, 2008 2:29 pm

Hi lads,

Ok I'm thinking of selling the GPX. I know I only have it since Feburary but with the rising costs of fuel and road tax and the high mileage I do (about 15-20k a year) I'll have no money in my pocket and an FTO with such high mileage it won't be worth a whole lot after a year or 2. Going to go for a VW Bora or something I think.

The reason I'm posting this is I'm not really sure about how much I should look for. I bought the car for 3 grand and since I've bought it I've replaced the cat-back pipe with a serious stainless steel rigout, got the bushes and droplinks done, fitted HIDs,
installed a new stepper motor, had the car realigned and I'm getting the little bit of rust on the base sorted and the whole lot undersealed.

It's a black 95 GPX manual transmission 143k km on the clock. I've got the tax sorted and the NCT is due in a few weeks. Won't sell it until the NCT is done.

So what you think?

Keep the FTO - it seems like you sorted the issues - now you have a reliable FTO - get a few more months out of it before you sell.

As for a VW Bora -

I'd tend to agree with myfeckin'.. the fuel economy isn't terrible on the fto..

you wont ever have a hoot driving a bora.. no not even the one with the extra big engine - and even so the tax on that would be the same if not more than on the fto (I forget how big the engine is in the "killer" bora)..

if you are going to sell anyways you could prolly command around +5k if she's well sorted sounds like you got abit of a bargain when you bought her.

I'm not definitly looking for a Bora it's just an idea. Something along the lines of it and I don't particularly want power I'm just looking for a car with a more economical engine. I know the FTO is quite good on fuel for what you get but I'm thinking in a bit down the line when fuel gets higher, the green party bring in more rediculous taxes on high emmission cars and when I'm trying to sell an FTO with big mileage. I think I should count my losses and sell. It'll kill me because I love the car but I think it's the best decision.

And yeah I got a bargain, he was looking for a quick sale but I still have spent over a grand rectifying the problems with the car.
