It never fails to amaze me, the amount of people who advertise a car for sale and are then uncontactable :smt017

Guess what my mate bought? We picked it up tonight and I drove it home for him - Trim to Enfield. Sweet motor :D

My mate got it for €1750. Crazy money. It's a seriously lovely car. The seller was a nice guy. Seriously gutted to part with it, needed the money to pay VRT on an Audi he'd imported ( don't ask me model or year... I'm crap at that). He even spent €130 on getting a ball joint replaced and getting alignment done. This was AFTER deposit was paid.

Like pretty much all second hand cars, FTO resale values have been taking a serious knock of late, that said, this looks to be an exceptional circumstance whereby the buyer has picked up a genuine bargain.

What a bargain! He must be delighted getting the car for that money. Would be worth converting it to a manual. It makes a big difference!

Yeah, he's well chuffed. I actually bought mine from him and I think he's been pining for it ever since. Delighted for him.

Only if you wanted a manual. I don't want to speak for him, but I think he likes the Tip, as do I. As do a lot of people on this forum. Bit of 'best of both worlds' about it as far as I'm concerned. Whatever floats your boat, though. I know you've done a conversion recently, and fair play to you for taking it on, but everyone to their tastes.

A GPVR is supposed to be hardcore though, the tiptronic gearbox kinda takes from that. It also makes it heavier than a manual GPX :)

Fair comment, but again it's down to personal taste whether you want to be 'hardcore' or are happy with a seriously cool looking powerful motor. I'm not overly sensitive, but comments like 'it's only a Tip, it's only a GS, it's only a GR' can get tiresome and, in my opinion are at odds with what the club is about. To be clear, I'm not for a minute suggesting that that's what Aido or you are saying, but it is bandied about sometimes and I don't have a lot of time for it.

The tip does have a nice feel to it and it do like it. It's just the version R is weight reduced so having a heavy auto transmission is kinda anti-logic. I don't mean that in a bad way. The tip is fast and its an effortless comfortable drive. Put the foot down and you go, it's nice!

It's a 5 speed tip, isn't it? Would love to have a drive in one of them. I'd say it well good!

Hope to see this car at a meet :)

Yeah, 5 speed tip. Mine's a 4 speed tip. Drove his from Trim on the back roads to Enfield in monsoon weather... never got above 3000 revs (so no mivec, but I'm not finished yet :D ) loved it. Found quite a difference between 5 speed and 4 speed.

I think that's a given. Spent quite a while talking about meets etc. when we got back to his place.

I'm not going to say anything about manual or tip cause I'm sick of saying it to be honest. Agree with Baldrick, everyone to their own and I too like the tip.

I will say this, I've never driven a 4 speed tip, but the one thing I do find is that with the 5-speed its like there could have been another gear somewhere between 4 and 5, I never use the auto feature and like being able to change gear at the push of the stick, but sometimes its seems like the gears are screaming to be changed in 4th, then when you out it into 5 it feels a bit sluggish or something. I think if they had made a 6 speed box it would have made a nice difference to it.

Dont know if thats the same for the manual or not?

By the way that was a serious bargain your mate got!

You're not joking there! If he decided not to take it, I would have, irregardless of space to keep it in, tax or insurance... too much of a bargain to walk away from. Never got to push it due to the roads and monsoon conditions, so can't comment about your observations about a 'screaming' fourth gear. I'll check it out when I get the chance to give it a good 'lash' (This WILL happen Mark, I know you're stalking my posts, so be warned!).
