Passion Red GPX

Pick up this fto not too long ago from a member on here. It's a 97 gpx manual in passion red and apart from the paint it's a very good example!. Soon as I had it home I got it in the air and checked it over. I was very happy with the underneath, no rust issues! It had some minor problems which were highlighted by previous owner.

Put it in for nct as I got a date right away, it failed on the minor issue that were known


I replaced both steering gaiters which I got on ebay for €10 delivered

Hid ballast was gone, so bumper off and took it out. Replaced with one from temeeo's crashed fto.

Both working now and p/s spot refitted


Abs light was on because of a damaged abs ring on nearside driveshaft, took out the drive and had to heat the ring to remove it. Easy enough job!

Wheels on the car are very rough and corroded. I got a spare set with the car so I decided to paint them

I also removed the inlet manifold and painted it. Pic of it refitted

All work done and gave it a quick wash, ready for retest next week!

Fitted two of the refurbished alloys to the front with good tyres, waiting on two tyres for back wheels.

Really nice, the car looks very tidy! What paint did you used for the alloys if you don't mind me asking - they came out really well! I wouldn't mind seeing her in flesh, we must organise a meet!

I used Rustoleum stove & bbq paint on wheels and inlet. It's really good! You can get it in Woodies or Homebase. The wheels turned out brilliant, couldn't be any better. I sanded them down and only primed some rough spots then couple coats of the stove paint,then lacquer. You can flatten with wet 2000 paper if any imperfections.

Passed NCT yesterday!... Only got 6 months though, Must be a rule if it's been out so long?

Nct goes by registration date in Ireland stupid system really. If you had of waited 3 months you would have got 15mts nct Congrats on the pass.

Congrats on passing the NCT! I would have never guessed that you used stove and bbq paint in aerosol - I thought it was painted with spray gun! Keep up the good work.

Thanks!, Haha I guess you cant tell on wheels as it's not like a panel or big flat area. Once no runs or dirt in it then finish is perfect!

Passenger side wing mirror wasn't folding out when I got the car and now stopped folding in too. So I decided to take it off and have a look


Many parts for one mirror

I found that the contacts inside the rotating board had fallen out of place, their held in by three little tabs that had broken. Put them back in place and a little drop of glue to hold them



Then reassemble the mirror, job done!

Not breaking, this car is half stripped for respray. Not much time at the minute, hopefully I'll get more done with it soon .
