Wireless networking question

I bought a Linksys wireless router for my internet connection (I've turned on wep etc so no use in wardriving Lucan) but as I have the kit in my attic and tend to use the laptop in the kitchen, the connection drops to 5.5 meg. I know that it's still more than I need for surfing but I was wondering if anyone knew what the optimum orientation for the areials is:

Should they point up, down or parallell to the ground and if the answer is parallell, should they point in the same direction or away from each other?
Or, does it not matter a dam?

Still, it's brilliant and way better than running wires around the house.

Given that the signal is already suffering degradation going thru 2 ceilings and a brick wall or two, changing the AP's aerial orienation isn't gonna make a whole lot of difference. Test it out by having the signal indicator open while placing the laptop directly below the AP, see if changing the aerial position in the unit yields a better SNR.

I have the same setup myself, thing is you get very lazy when you you can just browse the web from the comfort of your couch
