Passed my test Whoo!

Postby sinlessgunner » Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:11 pm

Passed my test first time yesterday. Totally chuffed! Also my insurance renewal has come down from E3030 to E2190 with Quinn Direct. Anyone know any insurers that might take me on a cheaper quote?

Woah thats expensive! Hmm sorry to say but Quinn are probably the cheapest I'm afraid.

Can I be bold and ask what age/s3x, NCD/Driving experience you have? If you're young like I think you are you might be limited to Quinn or Britton Insurance (http://www.brittoninsurance.com/).

Hibernian may take you on if you sit and pass the Ignition test, but they will probably consider your car a "performance" vehicle and not quote you at all if you have MIVEC. I know from experience a MK1 MR2 (1.6) is considered a performance vehicle.

Well done though! Thats a huge lowering of your premium! More money for mods

EDIT: Ha why does s.e.x. need to be censored!?

EDIT 2: Is there any chance you can put an experienced parent as the main driver and you as a named? Should save a bundle if possible.

Im 21/m 1 year driving on a provisional no other experience. Also have no no claims bonus because I had a slight tip last summer (hit a parked car E600 damage) so the chances of a better quote are probably slim. Just wondering if there were some little known insurers that I could try!

NCT.....?

I had to claim off the insurance unfortunately, the car I tipped was a rental car and they insisted that I pay through my insurance so...

well if it's the best quote I can get then fair enough. What's this about a named driver being cheaper....

Thats always the way it's worked, If you go as a named driver on a parents policy you should save at least €400 i'd say.

Just checked this out with Quinn and it went down to E1,299 TPFT or E1401 fully comp if I get my Dad to be the main driver! What are the implications of this though? Surely theres a catch of some sort...

You don't get a "real" NCD. If you mess up big time you screw your Dad's NCD. That's all!

there is the small matter of you owning the car and falsely claiming that your parent is the main driver and you're only a named driver.

Well I only drive the car at the weekends so that should be OK. As for me owning the car, well my Dad is the registered owner of my mums car but she's the main driver so that shouldn't matter...

I know this is bending the rules a little but when it's a difference of E1000 I'm willing to take the risk!!

Indeed, my Dads the owner of a car, my mothers the main driver and I'm named on it!

Remember if you feck up its their (usually long standing) NCB thats goes down the drain, thats why the insurance is cheaper.
