Refurbing alloys

Postby fatboyfat7 » Thu Oct 01, 2009 12:05 am

Got one or two questions about this... Last week I picked up a set of 17'' Enkei's. One or two of them have slight peeling around the centre cap though. Could I have these alloys refurbished white or does it not work like that? Or would I be as well off just going and buying white alloys?!

No reason why you couldn't, there's a thread somewhere about doing them yourself too.

What colour are they now?

Just the standard silver colour. Same alloys Bernard has on his wagon. Always wanted to have white alloys on her but I got these at such a good price I couldnt say no! I dunno how they'd look in white though or even that it was possible... Ive seen the threads about spraying standard alloys white but Id want a pofessional job. Might attempt my own set of standards then for interest. Remeber the picture from the FTOOC that someone had done the standards in black and white? They looked class, might try that, no harm then if I was to make a dogs dinner of it.

Got mine for a song too, just goes to show there are still deals to be had.

You could try powder coating, might give a more durable finish?

There the ones alright, just have slight peeling in and around the centre caps on 2 of them. I was surprised at how heavy they were to tell you the truth. How do you think they look with a white powder coat finish?

Just after looking at your picture there I could go with white on the spokes and black in behind?? Might keep them cleaner looking...

I think they'd look nice Chris, worth a shot anyway. They're a stunning alloy anyway and I think if white they'd come out well too.

They look fairly class don't they!? Might go with a blue mitsi symbol though to match the seats. Want to get her NCT'd first though. At the price I have her listed for Im barely getting any interest so Im as well off keeping her really. Any idea on how much this powder coating costs? I'd be guessing about €250?

Good call, dont get rid of it, keep it.
I thought you had the centre pieces done in bluse on the other alloys no? New alloys would set it off all right. Have a look at Grace from the FTOOC's car, think theres pics from our trip to Japfest of her alloys, just painted the inside black, and kept the outside grey, original alloys, but if you had the outside white and inside black with a black centre mitsi badge might be nice.

I mailed them about doing a set of alloys for me and they never replied to it. If your considering using them I'd definately ring them, never did myself after they didn't reply to my email and have decided to get a new set instead. I reckon the white wheels would look class on a white car (dont think they suit any other colour except the odd blue car). The black back would also look smart, as you said it would look cleaner as brake dust, dirt would be less noticeable than on a white surface. You could paint the sides of the spokes black too that might give them another dimension.

Got quotes today out of curiousity...

Tallaght Powder Coating was €374 incl. VAT.
To have them lacquered white in Cork was €250.

I'd say I'll go with the powder coating tbh. May as well get them done right. By the time I have them done though I'll have a fantastic set of alloys for under €500...

I'll give him a buzz and see if he'll do a deal. That price is excl. VAT but he wont charge it. Im not in any mad rush to do it but i'd be interested if we could send the 2 lots together and get a deal. When u have in mind?
