Location of vehicle speed sensor?

Can someone confirm is the vehicle speed sensor on a tiptronic is located just behind the gearbox filter? I'm finding that the tip box gearchange in D is erratic in that it sometimes will not change up a gear in line with speed, you have to move over to tip mode and manually change up. ECU has been reset, a diagnostic is throwing up error code 24 which equates to the speed sensor. I know that theres input and output speed sensors on the tip box but which one is at fault? (I'm guessing input)

Yeah, I had a quick look through, buts its a bit vauge, I'll have a proper look, I'm sure the info is in there...

Had a quick browse through it... workshop_1, p 347, vehicle speed sensor connector is number 6 and on the right hand side of the pic.

p 331 has input shaft speed sensor and output speed shaft sensors, little arrows in the diagrams to show which they are.

Nice one kev, I actually remember skimming over that page yesterday, theres so much in the damn manuals! Looks like the VSS might be down the back of the gearbox, nice and accessible, eh?

Guys, I wiped out the air intake and the battery tray to get a look at the VSS, I'm pretty sure its what you see in the pics below:

It looks more or less what I expected it to look like. Saw one in a previous car years ago, the rubber bit was accidentally dropped into the gearbox somewhere, couldn't get it back out. Just put a new one in and the old one I guess just got chewed to bits. Didn't seem to do any harm anyway.

So any the wiser now having had it out, still getting that error code I guess?

I'm leaving it for a day after the reset to see if the error returns, we shall see...

Hi, I am new and have just asked this question, the answers are above, I shall try my VSS, I have been told this is the most common problem with speedos not working, will check tomorrow and keep all informed
