VR4 Conversion

Does anyone know if there's any reasonably decent documentation of a successful transplant floating around the web?

I've half been looking as well - didn't find any..
hopefully you'll have more luck.. are you regged on ftooc ? They might have a "guide"..

but there's one of an evo 7 conversion on FTP malasia

Had a snoot around over there and couldn't dig anything up. I'm not actually a member though.

The best person you can talk to would be Richard Batty on the UK forum. His is the only person I know of to have completed this conversion. I know it was a sizeable project though including having to put a bow in the back wall of the engine bay to make the unit fit.

There have been a few turbo FTO's that have come up for sale over the past few months - inc Evo conversions - I think you'd be far better off financially buying one of these than trying to start from scratch.

You're most likely right, I'm just curious to see what's involved beyond the actual straight swap which could be done quite cheaply.

A lot of heavily modified (and turboed) FTOs aren't to my taste visually and there isn't a great selection so I'd be reluctant to buy one.

Mainly I'm curious what kind of costly difficulties could be involved (like the bow in the wall), just toying with the idea for the minute.

Hell of a lot of work involved. I would have thought an EVO conversion would be more straight forward and would yield similar end results

From what I've been reading it seems like fitting a low boost turbo on the existing engine is a far simpler and cheaper option (though still costly and far from easy).

Not quite as powerful mind but it should still provide some pretty impressive results. MIVEC might complicate things though.

One of the guys on the forum (ftorex) has undertaken a VR-4 conversion, he's also involved with the Irish Rotary crew, I'll email him and ask for his input.

id LOVE to do this to my car! but i cant see the money ever bein there to do it!!! if i was doin it id want a 4wd conversion too!!!

i was told would cost about 10k! :(

Yeah but you can knock a large chunk off that by doing the labour (or most of it) yourself.

Yes i have started on the VR4 engine (6A13TT) conversion ages ago and still havent finished it off :(

Time and money... :roll:
