Postby Muad_dib77 » Thu Dec 01, 2005 2:03 pm

Hiya..

Are these fellas any use?

Red stuff..

[ http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RED-STUFF-BRAKE-P ... dZViewItem ]

Also what would one be expected to pay for brakepads in general?

Am suspecting I need to get mine replaced - had a funny sqeak from the left rear the other morning.. could have been water - but hey..better safe than up a tree!

Redstuff are good pads - maybe a little hard for standard disks though.
I use Green stuff all round for this reason - they are better pads from cold - the redstuff would need a little warming up before they work properly.

I'd say greenstuff are a more suitable road pad on standard disks while the red stuff would suit aftermarket disks like the black diamond drilled and grooved etc.

Greenstuff are quite dusty despite what EBC say though - I hope you like cleaning your wheels.

I've redstuff on the front and greenstuff on the back, and did notice it didn't completely agree with the standard disks alright. At higher speeds there'd be a lot of vibration when braking. I did have a tendency to sit on the brake at lights though, and now that I've sorted out my habits its better.

I haven't noticed any problems with the redstuff from cold, although where I live the roads are twisty with plenty of 90 degree bends betwwen home and work, so by the time I get to the straight stuff (and thus speed up) I guess they're prob warmed up.

Would this not warp you discs - if you were to do it all the time?

Any comments on the price..is it cheap, dear or just about right?

Not really warp the disks - no - may leave some residue on the discs which would give that impression - I think its been well established at this stage that the FTO disks "warp" is usually just deposits that have built up unevenly on the disc - hence why skimming the disks tend to cure it.

The price is ok - 6GBP cheaper than Camskill - I'd be more inclined to go woth the old reliables when theres not much difference in price. Maybe try pricing Rice Rocket as well - I'd say he may match that.

I'm with MFFto on that one, it wouldn't have improved if they were actually warped. its just muck building up there.

Same on the sources, I've heard nothing but good service from the likes of Camskill + RiceRocket, so if its only a small few quid I'd be inclined to stick with them. No idea what I paid for them myself, it was over a year ago, but I bought from Camskill at the time.

I have seen this add on ebay, although the price is cheap within the Uk for the pads, by the time you add the postage it makes the pads more expensive than my equivalent, its quite a good selling technique. Not sure how much the postage is to you, if you`re interested please let me know
thanks

Thanks mate :-) I'll have a look at the pads when I get my alloys :-)

The odd noise (that made me think my pads were starting to go) has disappeared...
