LSD on GPvR Oil Change?

Postby Mustang » Thu Apr 27, 2006 9:20 am

The GPvR is fitted with a limited slip differential. As the car is available with both tip and manual gearboxs (both with different grades of oil obviously) I assume that the LSD is a seperate unit and has it's own oil reservoir? If so is it a simple job to change the oil? What spec/ grade and quantity is required?

Nope, its part of the gearbox, the gearbox oil acts as a lubricant in this instance. IIRC, tip boxes with integrated LSDs should have the AFT changed that bit more regularly than non LSD equipped boxes.

Are you saying that in a tip box car the LSD is lubricated by the ATF dextrox III, etc. Whereas in a manual car it is lubicated by 75w/90, or 80W90. Which are totally different oil types.
ATF is much less viscous than 'regular' manual gerbox oil, seems strange to me :smt017
Or is it a case that in the manual car the LSD is sperate from the gearbox?
In which case does the LSD then use an ATF type oil?

Yes, thats exactly what I'm saying :)

Same thing in the manual box, the LSD is integrated. I'm assuming that the LSDs are different in both box types, but I don't know for sure, this is all for memory. IIRC, this was discussed on the FTOOC in the past, do a quick search over there and see what comes up.
