traffic corps my boll*x

Postby d_dan » Thu Apr 17, 2008 8:31 pm

got pulled by the local Traffic corps,
3 of them in the car,
one was a SGT.

Asked me to pop the bonnet which I gladly did
(not just to start off i was seriously polite and was rather chatty)

The SGT told me that myu engine wasnt standard.
-I explained it was.
The SGT told me I had modified the engine to have MIVEC
- I explained it was standard on the car
He told me my HID's were illegal
- told him they were also standard
He asked me where the engineers safety report for my transplant was
- he told me my insurance was void as i had my engine transplant

SO AT THAT STAGE I STOPPED LISTENING AND STARTED TALKING TO THE OTHER GARDA(who had complimented me previously on how well it looked  )

and he was grand and explained a few things to me, which was great eg. a car cannot be siezed for no tax unless its out over 2 months. but in my case the car was never tex'ed so i was liable.

So i got off with a caution. but DAM should the traffic corps not know the basics of cars?

I got pulled for the first time in years yesterday.
I'm in a line of traffic keeping under the limit cause I can see a Squad trying to make ground in my rear view. Squad pulls in behind me and a middle aged Guard driving sticks up my hole for 10miles plus - then eventually decides to pull me over (on a dangerous section of road) - so I pull in a little bit further on in a lay-by.

Me - Evening Guard
Guard - Howy're ya - Did that exhaust come on that car.
Me - Umm! - well it came imported that way (not).
Guard - So are you saying its a standard exhaust?
Me - No - but it does have decats (not), reasonators (not) and baffles (barely) so....
Guard - I'm not asking you that - would you say its a standard exhaust or not!
Me - Probably not - no more so than the Nismo kit on my car - so whats wrong with the exhaust?
Guard (looking confused) - I'm just saying that somewhere down the line you'll get in trouble for it.
Me - I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!
Guard - Give it a rev there!
(I rev engine to about 2K rpm max  - Guard shrugs and goes to check the tax and insurance).
Guard - (standing back from car) Jayzz shes a snazzy yoke! Did you import her- what did she set you back - blah blah.
Few minutes small talk re car and I'm off.
Get about 4 phonecalls over the next 5 mins wondering if I've been arrested - it seems word travels fast.

They really can be a shower of c**ts - I was stopped months back at a checkpoint at 11pm on a Tuesday evening - young female garda started giving me the third degree in a very agressive tone form the off

Banner: Where you coming from
Me: Work
Banner: Really?
Me: Yes
Banner: No need to be smart with me son!
Me: I wasn't intending to smart Guard - I was working
Banner: Where do you work?
Me: Investment bank
Banner: Were you drinking tonigh?
Me: No, I don't drink Guard
Banner (in incredulous voice): Do you really think I believe that?
Me: I don't know Guard - all I can say is that I don't drink. Mostly because of my sport
Banner: Do you think I care about your sports - that's not the question I asked you!
Me: I wasn't drinking (at this point I dropped the Guard cause she was really pi$$ing me off)
Banner: I see you have no NCT on this car
Me: Ooops, sorry, I have it here (take NCT cert out of Glovebox & hand it over) - I'm waiting for insurance company to send me out a 3 disck holder.
Banner: You think that's an excuse? You know I could impound your car for that?
Me: No, I didn't realise, are you sure?
Banner: Are you trying be smart with me?

At this point her collegue came over - he was much friendlier -

Garda: What's the hold up
Me: Not sure Guard (back to being polite)
Banner: He has no NCT! And he probably had no licence too!
Me: You have my NCT cert there - I just don't have it displayed because I'm waiting for <Banner cuts me off>
Banner: Where's your licence!
Garda: Sorry sir but could I see your licence please
Me: No problem (hand him my licence)
Garda (to Banner): Where's the NCT cert
Garda and Banner walk a few feet away - Garda can be overheard saying "His cert is valid so what's the problem? Sure he's nearly 10 years older than you woman!"

Garda returns - appologies and sends me on my way. I thank him then look at the Banner and wink before driving off - actually felt like giving her the finger - stupid b*t*h.

Call it what you will but I put it down to jealousy - young guy (only look around 25) driving nice car so lets give him some grief.

Whats the story with an NCT cert thats out of date? Mine is up since the start of the month but never got a letter off them. I got the car nct'ed last year but I think cause it was an import first taxed in '97 it lasts only a year. The disc says its out in 03.08. When I first brought it over I got stopped twice without an nct disc and nothing was said to me. Is it up to me to ring them for an appointment or should they cotact me?

The NCT do not contact you, you have to arrange the test yourself.
The guards are clamping down on the non displaying of certs.

And as for the the ban Garda with attitude above I would have asked for number (Not her telephone number) and reported her.

Yip - "Robocop" (the fat motorbike cop) is infamous.
Surprised he's still a cop - didn't he get arrested for drunk driving???

Had a run-in with him in the past - but he couldn't catch up!

How about this one;

Stopped in Yougal just driving through, speedo reading 30 so was prob below it, didnt want to draw attention or anything, clear night, no traffic, usual story.
Drove past the garda shop and a few hundred yards down the road saw the flashing lights in my mirror, knew I hadnt done anything so I pulled in to let him pass, where I pulled in for anyone that knows Youghal was where the road forks in 2 in the town and I was sort of blocking one road, cop pulls in behind me, my natural thought is, 'he wants to go down there', so I pull away, he still follows and lights still going. So I pull in, and wait. No cop gets out of car, so I did. As I walked over to him he decided then to get out, noticed he was a young fella about 25 and looked green;

Me: Hows things, you all right?
Cop: Whats with the revving?
Me: Iwasnt revving.
Cop: You were, going past the station back there!
Me: I wasnt.
Cop: You were, I heard you.
Me: Its an automatic, you cant rev an automatic while driving.

Cop looks in window and sees its automatic. Then walks to the front and checks discs, my tax was out by 3 days cause I was waiting for the disc but this very obsevant young man didnt 'cop' this. Walks back to me.

Cop: Its too loud anyway.
Me: What is?
Cop: The car, its too loud.
Me: Its been passed by the nct and they didnt have a problem with the noise levels.
Cop: Well if the traffic corps catch you they'll make you change the exhaust.
Me: Its a V6, its going to be louder anyway. (Seeing as I've often been stopped by traffic corps and they never asked about the exhaust I was getting sick of this young fella by now!)
Cop: Doesnt matter. Have you got your licence?
Me: I do.

Hand him my licence.
Cop sees my name and where I'm from.

Cop: You related to **** O'Sullivan? (Asterisks cause seeing as hes a cop too not putting his name up.)
Me: No, went to school with him though.
Cop: Oh right, I went to Templemore with him. Well, seeing as you're not from here I wont make you come to the station and show me you've changed the exhaust.
Me: Right. (Thinking to myself 'damn right you wont!!!'.
Cop: Right, you can go on away so.

So I gets in, and he waits till I take off, which I do with my Mivec roaring behind me and my exhaust blowing in his ear!

Obviously he thought I was some young lad going cruising or something and he was having a little bit of a power trip. No way should he have been out in the squad car without a senior I thought!

I'm laughing here with all of the above
They are either sound or complete tossers.
Stopped at a Garda checkpoint a few months ago in town one night. Young fella comes up to me and goes, eh what's the story?' in a serious tone.
I'm there 'eh?'
Guard, why are your spotlights/ fog lights on?
Me, 'eh, I don't have any Guard!'
Guard, YES you do,
Me, 'NO I DONT' (95 prefacelift standard front with original lights!)
Guard, 'Switch off your spot lights'---Me, there, just side lights on.
Guard, 'Switch them off' Now it's 10pm and I'm in a black FTO on a dark side street in town and anyone could have come around the corner and up my ar$e...clever lad
I'm sitting there laughing and he goes 'eh OK'

They never bloody apologise that's what gets me the most.

Driving back from Kerry one night in my girlfriends car and I'm teaching her how to drive. Picked up cat as well from parents house.
Come to set of RED traffic lights beside Garda station and I stop obviously. Lights go GREEN I drive on.
Blue flashing lights behind me, I've done nothing and keep going thinking that they want to go around but they don't! I keep driving and pull in letting them past but they don't go past.
Ok I better stop but have no idea what the story is.
Guard comes up to the window, I go 'Hi' in friendly but curious tone'
He says, 'Why did you just run that red light?'
I go,'WHAT I DIDNT, I DONT RUN RED LIGHTS' laughing and in shock at same time.
Guard, 'Show me your license as your getting an 80 euro fine and 2 points'
I said that he wasn't giving me any fine or any points as I haven't done anything wrong and that he got it wrong.
Guard goes fcuking mental and tries to arrest me.
I go, 'no ones getting arrested as no one has done anything wrong!
I'd just driven 500kms from Kerry and I wasn't in the mood for any crap. Plus I have a witness beside me in the car.

This goes on for half an hour at the side of the road. Guard was trying to do me big time and said that 2 points wasn't any big deal as he had 2 points!
The he talks about my 'bad attitude' and I ask him that if he was pulled over and accused in the wrong what would his bloody attitude be like? He agreed with me.
Meanwhile, cats going mad and girlfriend is feaking out and wants to report him to Ombudsman!
He tells me to come into the station tomorrow when his shift starts to show my NCT and Insurance cert (which I had on car anyway) and he'll decide what he'll do depending what my attitude was like.
I told him that 'my attitude' wouldn't be any different.
Then he starts to say things like, 'well I was in the carpark driving around by some cars and I saw you running light through the trees!' JASUS.
Anyway I'm waiting for him the next day and he arrives late for work. Comes out and asks me for my stuff which I give him politely. Spends the next 20 mins putting it to through the system, hands it back with a big smile on his face.
I ask, 'what happens now' as in 'you're not giving me a fine and he tells me that i'll receive my 'Fixed Penalty Notice' in the post!
I go bloody mad again and we argue for next half hour in station! Finally he says, OK i'll let this one go as I'm not entirely sure what I saw lastnight'

What a waste of my time. I stood up for myself because I totally knew I hadn't broken the light.
No apology from this total EGO head so they ain't in my best books I'm afraid!!!
And I didn't get laid that night, that was the worst bit! (by my girlfriend in case anyone is a smart ar$e!)

I know....

We(my old website 0-60performance)

had a meet in tullamore last year,
invited the local paper down for some good publicity,

We went down i warned everyone to have everythign in order.
there were some great cars there.
1 civic acting the mick and one of the lads supras (on english plates he had it about 3 days)

the civic went of his own accord, the TC came down and threatned the lad with the supra they would take the car if he didnt leave.

Come the end of the day there was 1 person done for no tax (the newspaper photographer/ reporter)

the article came out 2 weeks later,
practically slaiting the way gards treat us, and that were missunderstood.
that not everyone who has a high performance car is a boy racer.

the title was "GARDAI tell enthusiasts to kerb their enthusiasm".

they interviewed the local SGT(the lad who told me my car had had an engine transplant the other day)

and he just talked about at some cruise one that somebody threw at bottle at their car. and this is why we cant be trusted

about the boy racer thing

i was PARKED in a petrol station in tallaght , beside me my friends integra , and beside us a levin . when a garda car pulls in and 3 law defenders came to our windows , checking all the disks .

guard : what's the story here!
me : hi
nothing , just meet some friends

guard: well this is not a parking area for you boy racers (who said anything about the racing thing me thinks??) so you better leave !
me: we will leave in a few minutes after all my friends are here.
guard : you better leave now if you dont want any troubble !
me:  ok. have a good evening

total waste of time .

probably the mature ladies that i've spotted recently with the fto's are some kind of girl racers as well , or anybody driving a coupe.
