Maybe it hit a low bridge while travelling on the roof rack of the saab 900 :)
I'd say the driver lost it and smacked sideways into a pole.

Ouch... high speed side on collision, pole or the end of crash barrier...

That is one nasty looking accident!

A train wouldnt be that narrow on the front its sideways into a pole I reckon,

How to get sideways in an fto is another thing liftoff over steer or hit by another car.

Boy sees girl - boy continues to look over his shoulder at girl - boy doesn't notice kerb which connects with front wheel and sends FTO into the side of pier.

Its def not a high speed crash - max impact of 20-30mph to the drivers side of the car - wouldn't like to have been sitting in the drivers seat though.

Looking at it again, the left front wheel is at a bit of a queer angle, reckon there's more than the right side in bits...

Going over a kerb could account for that - I doubt the left hand side has much damage.

Is Rory going to put us out of our misery then?

Who cares how it happened people, think of the parts you could get off of it!

Just kidding, always sad to see an FTO in an accident, saw it on Ebay. I reckon it was a kerb folowed by a pole...

When I said it looked like it was hit by a train,l I meant it was seriously damaged. It is in a breakers in the UK, I have knocked onto a couple of breakers with full non damaged FTO's for breaking. One has aftermarket seats and clear indicators.

I have lots more pictures of mangled FTO's. Would it be inappropiate to start an FTO graveyard.

A mate recently crashed her car into a pole at approx 20-30mph and did far more damage than what is on that FTO. It would be very unlikely that a driver would survive an impact speed of greater than 30mph from a pole into their side door of a car. Most cars tend to scrub off speed before impact in a crash so while they may have been travelling far faster to loose control it is unlikely the impact speed was very high.

Car manufacturers generally side impact test their cars at 30mph with a solid ram but at less than 20mph with a pole at side impact.

Heres an article that shows a BMW X5 side tested at 18mph into a pole.
Its also probable the X5 would hold up much better than an FTO in similar circumstances.
