VRT

how you doing lads and lasses..

Just one quick question about all additional costs involved with importing an FTO from England to here... I checked out www.ROS.ie already and found that the VRT for the car itself is 699euro? wanted to check if that was absolitely correct firstly, secondly I was factoring in the price of driving the car over on the boat? not sure about where to find that exact cost...

Last question is just about NCT'ing the car over here... do I book it in the day I bring the car over? and how much would the test actually cost? I know i'll need to put it through the standard fixing and fiddling to pass, but is it any different as the car was originally from england? (any hidden differences in there version of the emissions test or is it the same?)

As far as I can think of there's only to tax and insure the car after that and it should be road legal.

Anyway, any help with this and anything I might have left out, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again everyone,

pad

Call your local VRO if you're unsure about the VRT rate.

Check out my import guide, link on the home page (http://www.fto-ireland.com/importing.html I think it is).

They need to add the car into the NCT system before you can bring it in for a test, and in my experience a few years back that took quite a while.

Test is something like 53 quid? Look it up on nct.ie.

I reckon the required spec & emissions is going to be pretty similar between here and the UK, although they have different ranges of emissions I think, including testing de-catted which as far as I know the NCT doesn't have.

I only imported my car 2 months ago. I can tell by the vrt its a prefacelift your bringing in. The costs to get the car on the road are
€699 vrt
€20 for reg plates
€225 for 3 months tax

Postby padidas » Fri May 02, 2008 10:01 pm

cool

just a mate of mine knows a few car dealers (including his brother) over there, where he's from (Bury in Lancashire) its a pretty central area so I can view a few cars over there and stay with his folks...

been arranging to head over there anyway in about a month and a half, and that coincides with me planning on getting a new car from the cash i'll have with my new job that i start the end of this month.

As for the VRT itself it says that all FTO's are standardised (no difference between the Mi-Vec, GR or GS) and based on a 95 that comes to 699, and now with D_Dan saying he payed the same, I'm thinking thats spot on.

How long is a "while" to add the car to the NCT system?

thanks again,

In my case the car arrived in August, did the customs, registration and all that, and it was mid October before I could do the NCT test, so about 2 months.

After registering the car, it takes a working day for it to appear on the motor tax system. At which point you can pay the motor tax. I've heard it said but not sure how true it is, that they will not issue the cert of ownership until you tax the car. Anyone car to confirm or deny this? Anyway, if you register, and pay motor tax the following day, you should have the cert of ownership (and tax disc) within about a week. At this point you can call into the local NCT centre and fill in a form which basically just replicates the details on the cert of ownership -model, reg, chassis no. etc. They'll fax it off to HQ, it will sit in a pile for a few days until someone manually enters it on the NCT computer system. This should only take a few days -a week max. Then you can try to get an NCT booking -Huge backlog in most places at present.
If you don't fill in the form and allow all this to occur naturally I'd say it would probably take months after registration before the NCT crew would send you a booking letter.

NCT test fee is €49. Don't forgot to include ferries, flights, petrol for the journey home.
VRT rate is currently 30% of the OMSP based on engine cc. after July 1st it will be emmissions based and will rise to 36%. A 6% increase -no big deal for a small price car. However bare in mind that it is the government you pluck the OMSP out of the air, I would not be at all surprised if some of the OMSP figures are re adjusted in July. You have been warned!

VRC is registered after the car is taxed for the first time. you need an RF100 to tax the car, which (If I remember correctly) is one of the counterfoils under the form for registering the car.

In my experience, they take a photocopy of the VLC and the following day, you can arrange your test online. As you say Mustang, you could waiting weeks or months for the NCTS to send out a booking letter - may as well organise it yourself.

If importing from the UK, you can get the RF100 in the VRO or online @ revenue.ie, you'll also need the relevant export sections from the V5 document (UK version of VLC) to accompant the RF100.

Facelift and preface;lift have nothing to do with the VRT rate. It is based on the year and current market value of the vehicle in Ireland.

As for taxing the car I thought you need to produce the VRC (vehicle registration cert) at the motor tax office when taxing forthe first time as new owner.

I gave them the RF100, paid for tax and then they sent out the VRC a week or two later.

When I registered the car they gave me a pin number so I could tax it online.

If it's anything like the new car system, the pin will be the last 6 digits of the chassis number.
