It is expensive enough but I'd definately go for a a CAT 1 alarm. I'm getting one fitted to my cars in future. Also I'd just get a thick chain and a good lock and put it on the steering wheel. If they see it it might just be enough to put them off.
I also said I'd put in a switch that cuts the supply from the battery. Have it somewhere that noone would know only myself. That way there's no power supply to start the car if they do get in.
I'd deffo get something done the guard I reported it stolen said it was the 3rd one in a week he'd taken details of that was nicked. Don't mean to scare you, its just a heads up. Someone seems to have taken liking to them.

Yea, I remember you there karlf.
I got a €2000 trade in on a 98 c-class merc so it cost me €1950. It seemed reasonable enough. I'm gonna do a bit of work on the bumper and get that heavy scratch out of it. Apart from that, it's in savage nick!

I'm finding it hard to get insurance quotes. XS direct were the only one but who wants a 4 grand excess! I'm 27 with 2 years no claims and a full license. Why is it so hard to get a quote on a 200 hp car. I can get quotes on a toyota celica ss111 which puts out 220 hp so I don't know what the story is.

I'm with Eagle Star and they said they would cancel my policy if I buy an FTO. Such W**kers! (that was a few months ago)

Anyway I'm ringing them in an hour and see if they will transfer my insurance since I now own one. I really hope they will.

Sounds like you maybe should have confirmed a quote before purchasing - FTOs can be a proper b1tch to insure. The stories and quotes between companies are widely varied though and policies re FTOs seem to change from time to time.

I picked it there about 4.00. I rang my broker Britton Ins, who has me insured with eagle star, to transfer my insurance and eagle star walked away:(
So I rang XS direct and they covered me for €965 with a €4000 excess. (Bargain :!: )
I can cancel this policy in the next two week if I get a better quote somewhere, anywhere :?:

Savage car though :D
Couldn't take it for a decent spin with the snow and the hale, but there's always tomorrow :D

Supposed to be bad 2moro as well I'm afraid. Try quinn direct they quoted me on a GPX 1014 I think TPFT. I'm 27 full licence 6 years NCB. For some reason when I tried the 94 model it said I'd have to ring them as an internet quote couldn't be offered. Failing that see this post http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9193&highlight= and check out my suggestion. Again I must advise its only a suggestion and I dont accept any responsibility for anything going wrong. But its an option. And could save you a small fortune. You could also try adding a lady driver to your policy I've been told it may reduce the premim.

I dont think Eagle Star can cancel your polic like that. I thought thay had to change over the insurance and when your renewal came up the would just hike it out of all proportion. I would contact the insurance regulator to get calrification if I was you

Good advice Steelroe. I didn't think they could cancel my policy just like that, but they did. There was only 4 months left on the policy, you think they would have seen it out.
Thanks.
