De-restrict

Postby MadMax » Thu Nov 06, 2003 3:44 pm

I have a 1996 FTO GR for over a year and I would like to ‘de-restrict’ it. The Speedo is in kph which is OK because I’m in Ireland and our speed limits will be changing to kph in September 2004. What parts do I need to remove the restriction?

Welcome to the forum MadMax.
You can buy speed delimiters from Funky Product in the UK, check out this link

I am thinking of getting one of them as well. However, are these things easy to install, or do you need professional help?

If I get the Speed Delimiter E002D will I need to get new dials? which is OK, will it work with my current dials, I know I won’t be able to tell the speed beyond 180 kph but if I get new dial will they tell the correct speed. E.g. 100 kph would be 12 o-clock on a 180 kph dial and 100 kph would be 10 o-clock on a 260 kph dial. Changing the dial is just changing the background!

If you're not bothered about being unable to gauge your speed above 180kph, leave the dials as they are and get the E002D. My understanding is that to convert and delimit you'll need the E0021 and a new set of dials. Send Chris @ Funky Product an email and mention you got his details off this site, he'll clarify what you do and don't for the latter option.

In my opinion, theres not a whole lot to be gained by delimiting in this country, we don't have the roads for the sort of speed you can achieve, not to mention the traffic situation. If you're going to be on the track or out on the motorway @ 3am in the morning, thats a different story ;)

Check out this discussion thread on the FTOOC site to give you an idea of some of the options.
