Radio fitment

Postby Bernard » Wed Feb 13, 2008 12:31 am

I've recently found out that my radio (which has never worked) can't be fixed economically....great excuse to buy a new one. :D

I have a kenwood changer in the boot so to make life easier I'm thinking of staying with kenwood.

I'm not hugely into music but want a fairly decent head unit just the same.

I was looking at this one.

Can someone confirm that it'll fit?...Dimensions (WxHxD) 182 x 112 x 160mm

that looks like a standard double din to me..which fits just fine :-)

What's wrong with your old radio?

It had a rotating faceplate which meant the power ribbon had to be rolled in and out. This gave up the ghost, the cost of getting it sorted plus the fact that it had been repaired before meant it makes more sense to buy a new one...
Actually, I had an awful time just getting someone to take a look at it.

This is the one that I had.

I still have the remote for it if anyone wants it...

It was a local fella who works out of a porta cabin in his back yard that was looking at it.
I told him he could keep it for spares in lieu of payment

I couldn't find anyone else around limerick that still repairs them, noone wanted to know.

TBH I was looking for an excuse to upgrade...

AFAIK, all car radios are either 1 DIN or 2 DIN. The FTO has a 2 DIN slot assuming you have the trinket tray, so you should be safe enough with any standard model.

Cheers lads, I think I'll go for that one so.

Looks like I'll have a trinket tray going spare if anyone wants it, also the remote for the old unit.
I'll bring both to the meet in any case...

Why do you need to bother with a Cd changer anymore?

I have a MP3cd player and I just load up a few cds with several albums each and keep them in the armrest.

It also has a MP3 player input so I'm never stuck for music and don't have to mess with refilling the autochanger when I'm tired of the 6 Cd's that it had.

True, but since it's already there there's no point getting rid of it.
Also the stereo I'm looking at can play MP3 CDs and it has a USB port so I'll have my options open...
