Oil Leak

Postby d_andrews78 » Fri May 18, 2007 4:27 pm

Oil leak, seems to be coming from the upper part of the engine, can only see evidence of this when under the car. not from filter or sump plug. It's leaking down the back of the engine if that helps.
Anyone else had this problem?

FTO engines are prone to "weeping" it would seem - (according to Mr.Nolan anyways) - but if you have an actual drip you might want to consider a rebuild/gasket replacement.. how bad is it??

This was supposed to be a recently refurbed Engine and gearbox, it was dripping while at the mechanics, he didn't seem to bothered by it but mentioned it to me anyway, I noticed a wee patch of oil stain thats built up over a few days on the drive.

Hmm - how's the oil level in the engine?

Fine, looks like it was changed not too long ago either. next time it's in must get him to have a look at it. As it needs steering rack and CV boots next.

Its either the rocket cover gasket (easy to replace) or the cam seal (messy job to fix, common issues on MIVEC engines). If its coming from the top rear of the engine then its most likely the RC gasket, the cam seals (liquid seals) are further down the block. I would suggest you get the car up on a ramp to investigate further.

Thanks for the info guys, it don't seem too bad as I left it over the weekend and placed a flat packed box under to catch the leak, seems to be only a few reather random spots dripping so guessing it must be weeping a little.
