Brake disc options

Hey lads and ladies,
Im thinking about upgrading my discs and need some advice.
Im looking to get drilled and grooved and the price range is vast, from the €60 to €130/40 mark.

Is there much of a difference between the cheap and expensive ones.

Why? I am against drilled and grooved, they eat pads.

I buy standards all the time and do a lot of track days. I'd concentrate more on upgrading your pads, fluid and lines if you want better stopping power to be honest. I bought ferodos recently and they are phenomenal.

I'm against drilled disks and would avoid cheap ones like a plague have seen a few sets crack and 1 break

Grooved disks I prefer. but its up to you,
I used 3G grooved disks on the FTO. Now i'm using 3G 330mm twin disk's on them.
Never had an issue.

Yeah I'm inclined to go with grooved or even dimpled after a read around. I can get front EBCs off someone. They are expensive, but are they worth it.

No, they're not. Go Ferodos, Pagids or Mintex if you can... in that order. I had EBCs and not only were they crap but they destroy your wheels with dust.

Ops sorry I meant discs. EBC dimpled and grooved.
I got greenstuff pads on now and thier good enough. I'll have a look at ferodos

Ferodos are in my oppinion the best pads for a fto

I have noticed that the front calipers on my gpx are much larger that the ones on the back. Also the front discs are drilled and grooved, but the rear ones are standard. Should I upgrade the rear?

I wouldn't bother. As I said I track mine a good bit and it is never an issue, I have crappy EBC whitestuffs on the rear with no issues.

Yeah I thought so. I will eventually upgrade them though. I will be looking for pure gold brake calipers made from Gadaffis gun and Diamond brake discs from my wifes hand bag.

Decided to upgrade the lines, fluids and pads Instead of new discs.
I have hels braided Brake lines that Thomas was selling.
Where is the best place to get ferodos or other good pads cheapish
Also any suggestions on the fluid?

Nice. Camskill, I don't think Ferodos can be got cheap, you just have to suck it up - you get what you pay for.

I have Silkolene Dot 4 in mine. Never had problems.

DOT 5.1 if you can get it. but anything from DOT 4 higher will be fine

I put mintex 1144 pads in my fto, they needed a little warming up in the morning but they stopped me and fast

I'm going doing this little upgrade soon.
I'm able to get DOT 5.1 from my local motorfactor which I was surprised about. How much will I need taking into account bleeding, flushing etc

I was doing a search on the above question but still can't find an answer.
I seen that Laura ordered a loads of parts off Camskill including 5 litres of brake fliud. Is that as much as I need or were a litre or 2 spare.

Also do I actually need a bleeding kit or can I use something else?

As you can guess this is my first time doing this . Want to get it right instead of putting the fto into a wall incase the brakes fail.

I'm guessing here, but I can't imagine it's much more than 1.5L, so if you want to flush the system through, and then a fresh fill, 3L should be ok.
