[Drag-racing Event] Enniskillen - Straightliners 11.04.10

Postby Sebastian » Sun Jan 03, 2010 6:54 pm

One of the best opportunities to test your bus ,Straightliners returns to Ireland in 2010.

Two events for 2010!

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the St. Angelo's Event in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Straightliner's Enniskillen are proud to announce two full days of competition in 2010.

Road to Ten of the Best
If that wasn't enough, the 11th April 2010 will represent a unique and privileged opportunity.
The ten fastest cars on the day will earn themselves an invitation to attend Ten of the Best at Elvingston Aerodrome, as members of the first TOTB Team Ireland, competing against some of the fastest machinery in the world.

How much was it to enter last year? Was it worth it?
Id like to test the Fto see what it can do timed.

We didn't embarrass ourselves (too much)

Think it was £40 or £50 for unlimited runs.

Brilliant surface

A standard DC2 Type R and a GPX would be very close, but the Hondas could have any number of horsies under the bonnet as there is so much aftermarket stuff for the DC2s

Full strip . lightweight alloys with drag specific tyres , a good induction kit and an aftermarket exhaust .
a good clutch and engine health check before would not hurt ! (oil , plugs and so on )

Good tyres and a technique are the 2 main things, I had neither when i went to Straightliners, I only got the hang of it at the end of the day. The new tyres made a huge difference, even in Mondello my starts were much faster.

Cutting out excess weight is the key if you take the FTO to have roughly 200bhp per tonne, by losing 50 kg you'd be effectively gaining 10bhp.

passanger seat , rear seats , spare wheel ,and the spoiler are the easiest .

swapping your wheels with a light wheel setup can save 10 kilos i'd say .
If you wanna go Hardcore , empty your cubby box and the glove box take off strutbraces , passenger front light and if you are really into this strip the AIRCON out and all the panels you dont need in the car :smt112

oh and don't eat nothing a few days before the event

Your FTO currently holds the fastest FTO 1/4 mile time in Ireland at 14.79 (0-60 in 6.4 secs).
Weight is probably the biggest factor - The loss of the aircon plus some other bits helped.
The next best thing would be a set of 15inch rims on the front with some Toyo R888's or drag radials.

I'm gonna aim for the April event with the Zed - I've just stuck on a set of 18inch Rota Grid drifts and R888's and the diff should finally be sorted in the next couple of weeks. Then I'll be properly able to deploy its 400bhp/354lb/ft onto the tarmac.

finding 15 inch that fit the FTO is a huge problem though, I bought 15 inch tyres for dragging but could only get 1 wheel :(

Think Rory has a pair of 15's, was considering buying them last time around. Those and proper tyres should help cullen, you've a history to defend!

A set of steel 15" steel wheels off a GS or GR would be ideal....

:) Sounds like i'll be going to Enniskillen so!
I should be able to borrow 15 inch magneisium lightweight alloys from an evo a friend has.
Its not bad value for unlimited runs either. When was that time done?

Myfeckin ran it a couple times I think, 2006 anyway. I ran it last year, and it was still putting in respectable times. Getting the power down on the line is the the main area for improvement I'd say, hence the tyres.
1/4 mile times recorded here.
