De-cat pipe and cat temp. sensor

Postby skipper » Fri May 28, 2010 4:46 pm

Hi All,
Just put a de-cat pipe and stainless exhaust on my mivec but trying to get the cat tempurature sensor out it sheared off, so now the cat temp light is on.
So my question is, does this effect the engine mapping / performance and what are the options with regard to replacing it, or removing it from the system by fitting a resistor or something in its place.

Anyone got any thoughts???

it's only connected to a bulb in the dash. just put a bolt in there and remove the bulb.

Been driving for a while with decat with no sensor..hasnt done anything bold..so ..If the light bugs you I'd either

1. Put a little sticker over it? (Del Monte, Chiquita..all good options!)
2. Remove the bulb
3. Develop selective vision and ignore the little light.

Think I have a simple solution, I've disconected the sensor plug under the seat and removed the sensor from the car and connected a 10 ohm resistor in its place under the seat. The light now comes on as normal with ignition and goes off after a few seconds as normal.
Thanks for all the info.

Nice fix. Did you need to use a 10 ohm resister specifically, is it just a case of bridging the connection?

I just happened to have a large 10 ohm resistor, and at room tempurature the resistance of the old sensor was about 1 ohm so i gave it a try rather than just shorting out the connections as this may cause something to blow in the electronics.
