Adjustable camgears group buy ?

Postby d_dan » Sat Feb 07, 2009 12:37 pm

Hi guys,

Im thinking i could get ye a decent group buy when it comes to adjustable camgears,

These could give your NA FTO a power boost up up to 15BHP.

At the moment the price stands at E 300 delived for
4x Light weight adjustable Camgears.

If we could get an order for about 5 or so im sure i could get a few quid off.

I could get them for any FTO i suppose.

These are best done when servicing the car, or to do a service as the timing belt has to come off to fit these.

And im not sure on setup but will let you know inhte next week or two when i set mine up

by adjusting the exact points of the cams, you can adjust the cam postion so that the valves are open and closed at the perfect time.

Its fine tuning of the timing so you dont have any overlap

Is the standard setup that much out that I'm effectively losing 10bhp due to bad design?

not bad design, but more down to economy id say. as with your performance parts you have changed the mitsubishi setup so other pieces should be altered too.

For example,
the 3 main things that makes your engine run.
INTAKE (air)
FULING/ EXHAUST
EXHAUST

Colm for example you have a better air intake from your upgraded parts,
and a more free flowing exhaust.

So he has freed up any extra ponies that may have been smothered by the OLD, and standard parts.

But he could easily get good gains now by workign on the fuling as he has extra air and the exhaust gasses will bbe removed smoothly enough.

buy why not perfect that with the optimum setup by having the valves
releasing the gasses and recieving the fresh air at the perfect time

Is there any information available (dynos etc) that put an accurate figure on it? Would be a bit of a waste to spend a lot on these, run the risk of them not being of OE quality, or find that they have no effect.

Sounds like a lot of time, money and effort for an estimated gain of 10bhp! If you even want to dream about someone buying into this you're going to need a full complete and detailed description of what the group buy is for, including pictures, how they are installed and setup, how much that is likely to cost, and documented evidence of actual gains made.

My point was more on the 'estimated gain' part. I'd hate to go to that much trouble only to discover I only got half the expected gain, little as it is, or worse, loss of hp! Even if it was a proven gain I can't see many if any insurance companies going near it. No offense intended, just my opinion!

has you insured your mods?

alloys, a filter, exhaust, upgraded spark plugs? plug leads?

Anything that affects the performance or handeling of the car are to be declaired

Filters and spark plugs are a league apart from adjustable camgears...

still the exact same thing,

and tehy can be set to "0" so they can be standard.

Cheap alternative from buying new OE ones
