My New Car

Postby paulkenny » Fri Aug 12, 2005 3:10 pm

Hi,
Here's a few pics of my new car (98 GPX Manual). So far I've put in some aluminium trim, autostyle mats, leather seats and a new head unit with amped components up front and a sub in the back. I've done all the work on it myself so far bar a colour restoration in carcraft.
In work remaining I've got a set of Eibach springs to fit and I gotta change that front number place for something a little smaller!!

Looking well, and sounds like you've been busy since you got the car! It'll have been in Ireland a year in 4 days time...

That car is looking sweet Paul -not wasting any time with the mods!
Just wondering......When I was selling my '97 manual GR,(May this year) I got a phone call from a guy in Kildare who was interested in looking at the car. Ended up having quite a lengthy conversation with him about FTO's in general and pointed him towards FTO-Ireland....Was that you by any chance :?:

Thanks Jimmy,
Yeah the leather really makes it I think. I got it from a guy called Alan Brunjes (Bandit on FTOOC and "Leather Bandit" on fto-ireland). You can tailor the colour and logo's to your own taste. The cost was approx €1,100 and you fit it yourself. I found fitting to be time consuming but not too difficult. It took two days for me to do.
One tip I would have for anyone doing this is to make sure that you match up the driver and passenger side seat covers correctly as they are not the same even though there is no marking on the covers or the instructions to indicate this.
As with purchasing any product from an internet contact it requires a leap of faith but I found Alan to be professional to deal with and would recommend him to anyone looking for a leather interior.
Cheers,
Paul

Mine were pretty much identical as far as I could see (and that was one thing I checked)... just out of curiousity what differences were there on yours?

And yup, Al is a good guy to deal with alright. He's on holidays at the moment, went on Sat/Sun I think, so if he doesn't respond in the next few days you know why!

The seats themselves are not symetrical. If you take a look at them with the covers off you will see what I mean. The bolsters on one side are bigger than the other and the leather covers are shaped to consider this. There is also some slight differences around the hinged area at the bottom and the area where the seatbelt clips are. Unfortunately I didn't realise any of this until I'd already gone through the pain and anguish of fitting the cover on the wrong seat and punched the holes for the seatbelt clips so I had to leave them on the wrong way around ....doh!! You can see the difference between mine and CJ's look at the way his piping curves around the seatbelt clip and mine doesn't. That's the only visible difference but I am guessing they would've when onto the seats a lot easier if I'd got them the right way around.

As for 17's they'd look good alright but replacing tyres from driving on Kildare roads would bankrupt me!! (I've seen some other people I know go through that pain..) So I'm hoping the lowered suspension will make the 16's look a little less lost in the arches.
