Post your broadband speed tests

Postby CJ » Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:52 pm

In their infinite wisdom, eircom decided that they couldn't give me more than 3mbit ADSL, despite the fact that I'm about a mile from the exchange. This is a business line that was costing the guts of 50 euro per month and gave me the following speeds:

Image

I decided to get rid of the line and replace it with NTL broadband over cable. I'm now paying 40 euro per month for a 20Mbit connection :)

Image

Result! So far the NTL\UPC connection has been very reliable and despite the high latency indicated in the Speedtest, I'm getting very good ping times to Irish servers.

Check out www.speedtest.net to rate your actual broadband speed, post your results here.

CJ

PS. apologies to anyone out in the sticks stuck on dialup or a satellite link, I appreciate that this thread may be difficult to stomach!

Chorus/NTL basic internet, think it's €29.99 per month (TV and broadband is €59.98 anyway)

Zurich? Is your proxy server located there? Abbott must have some serious WAN connection if you're seeing the guts of 18Mbit on the wire to Switzerland.

It looks a bit slow to me for a big PC company

In fairness though I've seen 22198 kb/s before

From a 3 mobile wireless modem, €20/month. To to say its variable is an understatement. Ment to be 3.6Mbps, but that is rare, and sometimes as low as 200kbps or less.

I'm out in the sticks, and this is the only b'band I can get. Saying that, its pretty reliable. €30 a month for 1mb down and 1 mb up.

Just tested my home speed, it's looking pretty good but as Topcat says it's not exactly consistant.
