Lost Car Key

A friend of mine has lost not one, but two keys now for his FTO, what does he have to do now to get it back on the road?

a new ignition barrell and key? what about the door locks?

theres a 5 digit number on all FTO keys. Its important for some reason. I think if you have this number the FTO dealership can help.

keys are lost so no numbers unfortunately, i reckon it'll be a case of getting a new ignition barrell and locks as he doesn't have an alarm that does the central locking either...

My first port of call would be to a mitsi dealer (or the likes of camskill) to see if they can get a key based on the chassis number. I'd exhaust this possibility before changing ignition barrels, locks etc

Surely a Mitsi dealer would charge an arm and a leg though wouldn't they? well i suppose it may be cheaper than changing locks etc, either way he'll have to break into the car to pop the bonnet etc...

Chassis number will be on the certificate of registration. so unless that is locked into the car or lost there should be no need to brake in. Mitsi may well charge a fortune, but it costs nothing to ask. nothing ventured nothing gained etc.

Hi,

This happen to me before, i was able to get a key made up by taking out the door lock barrel and and getting a locksmith to make up a key from here.
The above can be done providing the key is not coded.
My fto was a 1994 and was not coded, not sure if later models are though.
