HIDs fitted

Postby CJ » Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:00 am

Installed the HIDs last night, despite the rain! Have to say, I'm really impressed with the result, the difference in light intensity is dramtic. I didn't bother with mounting the ballast brackets to the bodywork, I secured the drivers side to the alarm unit and used the supplied doubled sided adhesive to stick the pass side to the battery cover, hopefully it'll last. Anyway, heres the pics:

Rory, this the kit I used: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0048993723

I don't remember seeing a manufacturer name on the ballasts but there is German writing on there - possibly rebadged Philips?

Very easy. The only issue you might have is reversing the black\red wires that connect into the original bulb holder, the polarity needs to be reversed. I just cut them off and used spade connectors to connect the HID cables to the original wiring. The holders had melted as a result of some 80W bulbs I used some time ago so I was happy to loose them.

Stupid question, but which model number of bulb do you use?

I'm thinking of getting a set of these for when I go back to SA next month and finally get to drive my baby again...

Low beam = 9006
High beam = 9007

Same as with standard bulbs... (except they're ususally called HB3 & HB4 as well)

Low color temps are Yellow - anything below 4500k has a yellow tint (lower k=more yellow) 4500->6000k (white going towards blue) 6000->14000k (blue going towards purple)..

14000k is VERY Purple - and not bright at all..

I myself have 8000k bulbs installed and there's a nice blue tint in them.. very bright!

i fitted mine over the xmas and they were a piece of pi5s to fit, it was simple to change the connectors around, i used a small screw driver and popped them out of the connector on the kit,and then just stuck em back in reverse!! light difference is amazing, only problem now is that the fog lights seem real yellow in comparison!!

Same here, also fitted my kit over christmas - same as CJ's. The difference is like night and day.

I stuck some 100w H3's in the fog lights but they still look dim compared to the dip beams. :(

I've seen HID kits for fog lights - if I at some stage have too much money I might get a set ..

the fog lights look dumb now with the HIDs fitted in the main beam..

Plenty of other things to spend money on at the moment though..

(Body kit still lying about in the shed, still have a hole in the exhaust..and pot hole buckled an alloy on the 22nd of the 12th... merry xmas!)

I'm looking forward to checking out all of your HIDs at the Tunnel Meet before I splash out myself.

Keen to see difference between the Blue and White HID kits if we have examples of both.
