I've had one in my car for years. Saved me many a time. Did get a Garda ask me what it was at a check point. Told him its a booster ariel for the satnav. He believed me..! Could just imagine him going into Helfords and asking "Got one of those satnav booster thingys then..??"

I paid £185 for it have the receipt to prove it admittedly this was a couple of years ago. My asking price is O.N.O sensible offers will be seriously considered. As for legality, can't comment on the Republic. But N.I. this is still legal and above board. From my experience effective for the types of radar and laser it's designed to detect, as I said saved my bacon on a few occassions.

its legal in the UK to use laser/radar detectors, just not jammers, or any other device that can prevent the cops from logging your speed. In ROI, they would probably try and confiscate it off you if they clocked it was a laser detector. not sure on the law though. probably similar to police scanners. legal to own, but not legal to listen the cops.

Radar/laser detectors are legal to use as all they do is detect the presence of the signal. they do not process the signal in anyway. whereas a radio scanner actually processes the signal to an audio format. When radar/laser detectors were first introduced they banned them under the wireless telegraph act. However the were legalised after a high court case contested that as they only detected the presence of signals and did not process said signal then they were exempt.

How does this alert you by sound or by a light flashing if its by light im sure you could place the box say behind your front bumper and run a extended cable to the dash with a led if you were anyway electronicly minded.

Has a digital display with green neon illumination, text on display informs you of type signal detected and strength of signal accompanied by audible warning which increases in frquency in relation to strength of signal

so it sticks on the windscreen i take it?

it would have been easier to hide if it had a sensor and a wire to put it in the bumper :smt004

I knew a lad who had one but it beeped when it picked up a signal, the closer you got the faster the beeps, only trouble was it picked up the signals off the traffic lights with the sensors too.

yeah unfortunately they all seem to do this, there are 5 bands of radar commonly in use and traffic light detctors and sensors above automatic doors like in supermakets fall into these also. conveniently the snooper has a mute button which will silnce the beeps until your clear of that particular detection signal then it automatically resets itself.
