Non-FTO wheels for sale if anyone knows someone..... :-)

Postby soc » Fri Apr 01, 2005 1:15 pm

Lads 'n Lassies,

I know this isn't FTO related and I was reluctant to post this in the for sale section for that reason but was hoping no-one would mind if I threw it out there via discussion ;)

I've a set of 18" RS4 replicas that came on my golf (mk4 1.8T) which I want to sell so I can get some smaller wheels - the 18"'s + low profile rubber are just too big / harsh. If anyone happens to know of or hear of someone who might be looking I'd appreciate it if you could point them in my direction. I'd be willing to consider part-ex for a set of standard 16" 1.8T alloys. Of if anyone knows somewhere that would do a good trade in on some 17's that would be cool too......

P.s. CJ, sorry if I put this on the wrong place -

yea, been there an' done that one.... no biters. Just advertised on www.uk-mkivs.net too. I'm having the shocks, springs, arbs and bushes done this saturday so I wanted to get a smaller set of wheels sooner rather than later as I fear the ride is gonna be harsh city come saturday evening.

What is the exact size - inc profile, offset, bore, PCD etc????

Considering you spoke about wanting these alloys on a Golf for a long time - I'm surprised you would take a set of standard 16's over them - I would think that any young golf owner would take your arm off for a reasonably priced trade up to the RS type alloys. Are they really heavy, warped or wha?

Not sure on the PCD or offset - I've been too lazy to take the wheels off to look but you're right in thinking I should know these figures if I want to sell - I'll check tomorrow when the suspension is being done.

I do really like how these wheels look but to be honest I don't think 18's lend themselves to optimum handling or ride quality:-

1) very harsh if you hit any sort of pothole or ridge in the road
2) feel like I am sitting quite high - maybe this will change after saturday
3) I think a smaller wheel will give better handling (I feel 17x215/45's might be optimum)
4) I think they're a bit too wide (8" width) so they look slightly too big for the car
5) I'm really suprised at how many people check out the car just because of the wheels, and problem is it's usually skobies in starlets and micra's who do the checking out., which (to be honest) I would prefer didn't happen - I would prefer a more subtle look.

All that said I may have a change of heart after the weekend (when suspension work is finished) but I just felt that my last golf on standard 16's with 205/55's gave better feedback and response when driving.

Well I would have recommend vage also. But as you are not having any success with that option maybe you could try Cruise Ireland (cruiseirl).
A set of large oversized alloys wheels.......those guys live for that stuff :)

Thanks Lads - the suspension upgrade was so successful I've decided to keep the wheels for now :D
