Sheared lug threads

Postby jrad » Thu Mar 01, 2012 8:03 am

Ok, disaster.

I got my manaray ms6s, spigot rings and these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Splin...item35ad7c9bc4

I put on the wheel and the nuts but they only went on about 5 turns?!?!
When I went to really tighten them up the nuts sheared their thread.

Can anyone tell me where im going wrong?

Link not working, sounds like you need longer bolts (camskill have them) and proper quality wheelnuts

Thank god it happened when tightening them. It wouldn't be a comforting sight to be on the motor way and see your own wheel overtake you.

This post was answered by the owner on the UK forum:

"There were spacers on the wheels which didnt leave enough bolt for the lugs to grab so they sheared."

It pays to check the wheels prior to installation.
