Trouble with Gearbox??

I need to call on some assistance.
Lads i have abit of bother with the gearbox??
I was over taking a car and changed down to 4th, when i tried to go back up to 5th it was gone.
Same for reverse, it is as if they are not there.It is just hard and will not let it go in at all.
If any one has any ideas or solutions that would be appreciated. :cry:

Flea, sounds like a problem with the linkages, its not a massive job to fix, check out this thread for more info.

CJ, that is brill.
If it came to the worst and i had to replace the box, would you have any idea what cost i would be looking at and how difficult it would be to get a box?

Try Rory (steelroe) - he might be able to help you if necessary (but touch wood its on the linkages).

Sounds like somthing different to the linkages - will the shift lever go into 5th or reverse (i.e. into the gate) and then just pop back to neutral or is it that you physically cannot get the shift into 5th or reverse (i.e. you cannot get the lever into the gate)?

If it's the latter (cannot get lever into gate for 5th and reverse) then it's possible your syncromesh could be gone cause I think there are different syncro's for the different gears (someone correct me if I'm wrong here) and it's likely 5th and reverse could be the same syncro - if this is the case it could be a gearbox out job....

If it's similar to the problem i've just had - have a look on the Knowledgebase at my post on manual reverse problems - it might help!
