Toyota Starlet 1.5???

Postby Marie » Thu Nov 22, 2007 9:56 am

Hey Guy's,

My boyfriend order a toyota starlet gt something or other but basically the sporty model?

The car is due into Dublin Saturday, by marine cargo.
Firsty has anyone done this before? Any little tip's or trick's to have when collecting it?
Secondly would you recommend hiring an agent to do all the running around? "This sound's a bit dodgy to me" as you have to post him the lod book stuff ect!!!

But anyway back to the car, he bought it for sheer profit! He has a buyer and everything! However it was only when the papers came he discovered it was a 1.5? I've never heard of a 1.5 starlet sporty or otherwise?
One of the lad's he work's with drives the same car only it's a 1.3, he says don't take any less than 8000.00euro the car is very rare? making him, well us because i'll rob half  a 6000.00euro profit even after the car has ben changed over?

Can there be any truth in the car being worth soooo much? A 94 GT Starlet 1.5l?

Starlet GT's are 1.3

Bear in mind that your boyfriend will have to pay import duty, VRT and VAT on the car.
Starlet GT's aren't that valuable, and as the one your boyfriend isn't even that, don't go spending the potential profit just yet

Most 80 series 1.5 Starlets are diesel too.

Yes I know he has put 1500euro aside for import duty, VRT & Vat, I doubt it will even come to that amount, he has looked it up on the net, aparently there are only two 1.5 Starlet's in Ireland?

That doesn't make them valuable. the reason the 1.3 Turbo models are sought after is that they're fast and relatively cheap to insure.
Is your boyfriend's car a turbo? has he a model number/chassis number I can check?

The older EP71 was a 1.5 - These are valuable due to rarity.

highly unlikely to be a 1994 though.

He'd have auction photos if he bid on it. (are you saying you got the car in for €500 including freight?)

No it doesn't look like the above photo!
The lod book is in japanese!
Close enough to that price yes!
He bought the car from a dealer no bidding involved? His mate work's for an import car shop & gave him the contact.

well, its gonna be harder to insure for "young lads?" no... but it is a fast car.
As far as I understand it the 1.5 was not a standard factory job, but rather an engine using the 5E block on a regular 1.3 stralet head? am I wrong here lads? Was there actually a complete factory 1.5 starlet GT turbo? I didn;t think so. If there was all the young lads would have them. so the car is certainly quite rare. I'd say you won't have a problem selling it. plus if it only cost 500 to egt in (plus 1.5k taxes) and its worth 8k? thats unreal. you should go full time importing cars!!!

some more info here. the Starlet GT had a 1.3 4E engine, but certain tuning houses in Japan started using the 1.5 5E Paseo block with the 4E manifold and head etc.

AFAIK - There was a 1.5 Starlet/Glanza on the Jap JDM market from 91-98 model years approx. Don't believe it was turboed though - would have around 100-110bhp dependant on model. The 1.3 turbo puts out around 135bhp. If you have the NA 1.5 model - I can't see it being worth more than a 1.3 turbo.

No lad's it's def Turbo!
More than likely so it's being modified into a 1.5? But surely you wouldn't admit to that in the log book?

Anyway well see what happen's at the weekend!
Anybody had dealing's with Marine cargo?

If you had the auction link and/or auction sheet we could put this one to bed fairly quickly for you. An engine bay picture would be particularly useful.

E500 including shipping!!! Thats more or less for free cause shipping is around E500, I paid E600 for the shipping on the FTO, and its done by cubic metre. Never used MCI (marine cargo), but got a fella to do the paperwork and collect the car for me all right though. Def be at the dock when they offload the car so you can keep an eye on it, cause if your not there they'll leave her on the dock with the keys inside them, and thats where a lot of stereos, seats, etc get fleeced. Plus the paperwork and getting it vrt'ed is a pain in the neck to do!

Hi Lads collected the car Saturday!
The car is a 1.3 with 1.5 pistons? That make any sense? The engine was bore out of something and they join it with the engine of a Toyota supra?

Yes all sound’s very far fetched I know but it’s what the mechanic said!

Any idea what kind of power it's putting out?

He put his car up for sale to buy this one!
