Hooray I got one!

Postby Timmo » Sun Apr 04, 2004 2:34 pm

Finally after over two weeks waiting I now have a FTO!
It is a 1995 black GR with lowered suspension, sports exhaust and 16" alloys (look standard?!). I have just finished installing my stereo and have not stopped driving it since I got it on thursday!

How ace are FTOs!!!!

Congrats Timmo! Post a few pics if you get a chance.

Happy with it the way it is, or any plans?

Will post a few pics when I can borrow a digital camera (the one on my phone is a bit pants!).
At the moment I have a few plans for my car but mainly techy as I work in electronics, but here's what I'm thinking in no specific order!

What I need to do:
-need to sort out paint on some body work as there are few dodgy touchups and a little bit of rust;
-making some sort of staps to hold down the toolkit and stuff in the boot to stop it jumping around!;
-buy and fit a single din tray or get a plate made and engraved at work;
-and, fit a new window runner on the drivers side window!

What I would like to do / am working on:
-keyless entry (working on this now!);
-making plans to integrate an xbox as a mp3/video/game player and maybe add sat nav to it (maybe even 5.1 surround!);
-bigger alloys (looking into 18" or 19");
-getting an alpine sub and amp to go with the alpine speakers I have already fitted (sure I can buy one cheap off a mate I installed for him!);
-and, soundproofing with that flashguard stuff (great idea that one, whoever's it was!)
I Love It, I Love It, I Love It!

Looking well Timmo, and yes the handbrake sits quite high in the FTO.

When I first glanced at it I thought it was a facelift bumper must be the square number plate on the front that gives it that look, Looks well though mate,

Thanx all, latest news is that the speed camera detector did not fit in the spare DIN slot so I have mounted in in the hole I took the ashtray out from and it looks okay there! Just going to have to get a blanking plate made at work now to fill in the gap!!

Does anybody know where to download a font with the fto logo styled script?

Timmo, you can get the FTO decal in eps format from Steve Hemmings site.

Some are integrated into the rear window while others are external motorised units, the latter was a factory option.

Which works better, or are they roughly the same?

The external antenna provides a much better signal than the one built into rear window, the latter is famed for poor reception (in saying that, people often forget to hook up the antenna trigger wire).

JD pink wire goes to the amplifier remote output on the stereo. :D

Some people say that the external aerial is ugly..... but it does have two good things, the reception and the button to the left of the steering wheel which allows you to either have it half way or fully up obviously to reduce drag at warp speed! :lol:
