So I saw an RX-8 parked beside my car today and thought, hmmm, those alloys look good and might look good on my car. Only trouble is they're 18". I've already got limited rubbing on the inside wheel arch so I'm not sure if they would suit too good. Anyone know any place in Ireland that may have a set and may be some experience on 18" wheels on the FTO?

Okay so this rev dropping issue is back again. Revs drop to 500rpm or less and sometimes cuts out. TPS? Is the FTO TPS the same as any other mitsubishi? It's £158 on camskill and I just can't afford to fork out that kinda money right now. Need to get a battery sorted soon too.

FTO TPS is model specific. Suggest you run a voltage /resistance check on the TPS, search the forums then get 2 clothes pins and a multimeter. Assume a diagnostic didn't flag anything?

It could be that too I suppose.

I'm going to have a garage for my usage next weekend so I'll take off the plenum and throttle body, clean everything and see what happens. Change the plugs while I'm at it and then take off the down pipes and see if I can source the blowing.

Dials, and HIDs after I do all that and then rear droplink and front and rear ARB bushes. It'll be up in the garage for the whole weekend I'd imagine.

When were the plugs last changed? Bad plugs can cause low idle and cutting out.

Actually you might have hit the nail on the head. I serviced the car before I sold it to him and bought a set of plugs but never got to changing them. I gave him the set but he hasn't put them in yet!

Drive an FTO with 17's, 215/45 tyres (AFAIK the tyres on Elaines 17's are really small?) and lowered suspension and compare.
With the 18's the bar gets unsettled by any imperfections or bumps on the road, this is really noticible on bends. There was a world of difference in the handling of my blue and silver cars, I didn't realise till I got the silver one.

Did a bit of work on the car over the weekend. Saturday I spent a hour putting in the new EL dials from the FTO-Shop. Relatively trouble free but now I need to fiddle with the temp and fuel needles to get them to read properly. Pictures to follow when I get home. I have to say I'm very impressed with them. They light up with a cool turqoise backlight that suits the car very well. Also fitted the SS dial surrounds and the SS Needle cups. I also replaced the battery with a HCB005 from Halfords and it appears to have solved my idle and power issues. HurrAY!!!!!!

Sunday I replaced the rear droplink and ARB bushes. Disasterous! The bolt on the d/s holding the ARB bracket in sheered with little or no pressure from me. Had to take off the vertical bracket and drill and tap the welded nut. Evetually got that done. Both droplinks had to be cut off because the nuts were rusted to the bolts. Sigh! All done though.

Next on my list is from ARB bushes, plugs and an engine bay clean.

Drove to work today and the dash lights went out. The warning lights still work but the first click on the lights turns nothing on at all. The engine check light has come on a few times for a second or two and yesterday it cut out once. AHHHHH!!! Annoying! Is the lights thing a fuse? Similar to the brake lights/dash lights fuse problem.

On a seperate note. I'd like to borrow a set of standard alloys if there's a set about? They don't need to be in any particular condition. I'm just going to start a refurb of the alloys and I may as well start with them completely off.

i would say blown fuse, how did you hook them up? the el dials may have caused something to short, are the wires off the dials away from others

I got the dials sorted last night. When i put the gear surround back on I must've caught a wire and shorted the 10A fuse associated with it. Replaced it and all is well.

I also fitted the HIDs last night and they didn't work at all. It's bloody annoying too. Have to have a word with the supplier to see about a replacment.

I replaced the front bank of plugs with the Iridium NGK ones I got and due to the time wasted on the HIDs I got nothing else done really. I used really heavy duty cable ties to pull the exhaust up a touch a make it look level again.

I matched everything colour for colour so may be it was wired wrong. I'll try that before I send them back.

Try to connect red to black (or whatever colour you have there) and black to red...
I had the same problem... fitted my HIDs and didn`t work... then for peace of my mind switched the wires and it worked!
Don`t know why they do them opposite but I`m pretty sure it`ll work.

Tried the Ballast wired the opposite way around to no avail Looks like I'll want to send them back for another set. Or a refund may be.

Also, i removed the throttle body and cleaned the 2 TPS and the stepper motor. When I refitted everything my idle was MUCH higher than usual so I slackened the throttle cable a bit and now it idles at a more normal 750RPM rather than 500RPM. Cleaned the filter and the general intake and now it seems to drive a bit sweeter Great I say. Next on my job list is the downpipes to sort the blow and the lambda sensor. hopefully I'll have a ramp free this weekend to get that done. Also need to do the front ARB bushes.
