Remote Start Alarm Install Help

I have recently bought a remote start alarm of e-bay from China.

It is a basic enough system with shock detection and ign imob system, with a pager and remote start.

The question is does anyone have any input on the install diagram attached, it seems basic enough but I am not sure where all the points on the car are, and the door locking wires on the diagram and the car are a mystery to me as well.

Basically I want to install this system and am not to sure where to start!

welcome to the site!

There are some good wiring diagrams available for the FTO, and you can find them on the downloads page.

Just a note of caution, if I were you I'd check with your insurance company that a remote start mechanism doesn't void your anti-theft insurance. Also, it appears to work as an alarm as well, right? Every alarm is only as good as its installation, personally I think its a job for a trusted professional only unless you know what you're doing. But thats just me, best of luck if you're going to have a go yourself!

Wrt wiring, it'll probably all be into the big junction box in the passenger footwell, but early on in the wiring diagram .pdf it has descriptions of where the various connectors are exactly.

HEvery alarm is only as good as its installation, personally I think its a job for a trusted professional only unless you know what you're doing.

Agreed, if you're not comfortable with the electrical install, I'd be inclined to get it professionally installed. If on the other hand you're happy with reading electrical diagrams and you're handy with a set of crimps, get a copy of the electrical wiring manual from the downloads page as per kevs suggestion.

Already downloading the files now.

Never even knew they where there. I am comfortable with the wiring and electrical work it is more to see if anyone see's any issues with this install or better still if anyone has done an install and can point out any issues.

was full of good intentions when I bought it..

never got around to installing it..

Had a discouraging email from msconnors..

something with the remote start relay burning out.. :-s

I also got some dvd gear and screens I'm planning to install after I get my windows tinted and an alarm fitted... Don't want the world to know what's in there..

all the stuff seems to be of good build quality... I just haven't dared to try out the alarm..don't think I could face having to buy and fit a new starter engine should the remote star relay be dodgy..

The relay for the starter motor is the same rating as my META alarm in my old FTO which was installed 4 years ago, never had a prblem with it. I have bence tested the kit for voltage and signal cables and it seems to be fine.

As for it buring out if would need a good gauge GND wire to a clean point, a bad GND is the only reason I would say it would burn out. (I hope)

Hi there, it was I that sent the email to Maud re the alarm, I've bought 2 dvd players, screens and a reverse camera from AI audio and his gear is very good and very cheap, no quibble there, BUT!, The alarm system is not suitable for the FTO, So My Autoelectrician has told me, I Trust him 100%, he used to work for Cartronics now has his own business in waterford, every car stereo, etc,.. I've ever had installed in any car has been by him, top notch, I took a perfectly good alarm from my FTO and installed the one AI sold me, It sounded a great product but when installed it caused havoc with the car, kept trying to engage the engine, even while it was running! blew fuses and finally fried itself... I think the price of the alarm $80 says alot. specially for what it promises. I would strong advise against trying to install it yourself, get a qualified auto-electrician to do it if you go ahead.

All said the other stuff the guy in Hong kong sells is good quality, fast delivery and does exactly what it says on the box.

I know it sounds to good to be true a remote start for $80.
But its worth a try, there was issues with the alarm from a few buyers about the alarm and also a lot of other people thought it was the business. So thats why I came here and asked you guys.

So thats one person who thinks its not worth the effort, anyone else have problems or info on this system?

I have the alarm fitted and running with the remote start, BUT I have not wired the relay for the immob. As there is no central point for the HT coils. They have no common ground. But now I have a remote start, indicator flashing, knock sencing and pager enabled car.

It took me 1 full day in a well lit shed to do the install.

Very happy with the alarm and the coverage is very good. Trying to see about getting the ACC lead to activate the AirCon on a remote start now to have her warm on the cold morning. Setting it manually before starting usually works anyway.

So for anyone interested in these alarms its worth it in my option. Just have to figure out a solution to the immob. reply.

Am regretting now that I got alarm fitted just last week.. *sigh*

Still have the other yoke lying around at home - don't have a well lit shed..

Might stick it on eBay - or in the for sale section here.

Oh -- will swap cool alarm system for complet set of window tint + installation! (It'll be up to you to fit the alarm!)

Hiya mate, I know I mentioned this on the UK forum, but you've really got to think about the insurance implications. Many insurance companies won't cover cars with remote alarms. If yours is one of them and you either have an accident or if its stolen recovered and the assessor sees that you have this then your insurance could be voided. Only a friendly word of warning.
