Blown Speaker Replacements

Postby sinlessgunner » Tue May 06, 2008 11:48 am

Hi lads,

The 2 front speakers in my car have been blown since I got it and now looking to replace them. What's involved in relacing them anything complicated?

And also can anyone recommend a good replacement set? Not looking for anything extremely loud or anything just something a little above average is fine by me!

any 16.5cm speakers will be a direct swap. go to Halfords as they have the speakers all set up so you can hear them before you buy. €50 will get you a big name set. I got Alpines for my old FTO last year for €30 in Halfords.

I picked up a set of FLI 16.5cms in Halfords last year for about 80 quid and they're fantastic. Very easy job to swap them, just pop the covers off with a screwdriver and unscrew and unplug the old ones, plug in the new ones - job done.

There's a chance you might need to drill some new holes but that's not difficult either.

While you're at it you could replace the 6x9s, the stock ones are just the same as the 15w front ones but mounted on a 6x9 bracket. Slightly more akward job, but not difficult. I swapped them and haven't looked back!

some FTO's come with rear 6*9's from factory. some with 16.5 mounted on plates.

no! Just 6*9 in the rear, but some FTO's have 16.5 round speakers in the back where 6*9's would usually be, there's an adaptor plate in place to mount the smaller speakers on.

Yeah I must say I laughed at how cheap an option it was. It's nice to have some decent speakers back there.
