engine runnung noise

lads can you help. the noise from the engine in my gpx sound very loud. it kind sounds like a f**kin fiesta(a bit of an exaggeration but trying to express the kind of noise. there is still a nice roar off it but that runnig nice noise is driving me mad. whats the engine running noise like on yours!!!!!( i know its a kind of weird question, .)

Its a fair question Kenkeo. I have never heard another FTO running up close, so Im really curious how mine sounds compared to the rest. Another great reason for the meets, to looks at and listen to other cars to see if yours is "normal". If it sounds like a sewing machine or an old fiesta CVH engine, it may be the tappets alright. They can be quite loud, but the noise often dies down once the car has been running for 10 mins. Does the noise change after driving or is it constant?

i can hear the noise in traffic or driving slowly its not very loud but still there. doesnt seem to be affecting performance,. its kind like the fiesta sewing machine noise. is the tappets a big job

Sounds like tappets alright. Not a serious issue but it can be annoying. The GPX has adjustable tappets, it will cost you a couple of hundred euro labour to have them adjusted.

any one know a workshop manual for doing tappets. might do them myself.

You need a specific tappet adjustment tool as far as I'm aware.

It does say "helps make it easier" rather than "required"... I've never tried it myself though so I don't know.

i have a gpx with 90,000 miles reckon if i just adjust them rather than replace will work. any ever done a gpx. how do you know if you have adjusted them enough ir properly
