The FTO getting singled out for special (financial) treatment, nothing new there...insurance, parts, etc.
I guess the extra cost is to do with the frameless glass.

I'm getting a bit tired of gull-wing doors already - if I had 1000STG to spend it would be on 4 pot calipers, uprated discs and coilovers.
Besides - these kits will increase the weight of your car and will also reduce rigidity in the bodyshell.
There are certainly better ways to spend money on an FTO.

i disagree i still think the gull wing doors look good on an fto! it's not going to increase the weight that drastically, it's only a new hinge at the end of the day.
granted i would probably get the brembo big brake conversion kit first

but if i had a £1000 just lying about the place then yeah i would definitely get it done!

They look good to me anyway, that black car in the pic looks sweet with the front wing and doors... not sweet enough to part with €1500 for me though!

One thing I've always been curious about with these gull wings, is it not awkward to get out of the car with the doors up there? Anyone try out Mark's gull wing FTO that he had at the show in Dublin a good few months back?

I can't see how it would change body weight or bodyshell rigidity much, still hangs off the same spot and clips on at the back, and presumably the old hinges would have to be removed thus only adding minimal weight.

Hmmm €1500 would go a large way towards a turbo, or decent wheels, or leather interior, or uprating brakes/suspension/etc. Its a lot of money for that little kit they display on the auction too, especially as fitting isn't included!! €100 absolute MAX in materials?? Maybe splitrimsracing might fancy a crack off that one?

Dunno, IMHO it looks well, but unless it was a *LOT* cheaper wouldn't go for it myself... I quite like the frameless door as an alternative!

I have to agree, I definitely like that look, but not at that price.

From what I have seen in the various Jap performance magazines to date - the hinge mechanisms on the FTO's seem to impede quite a lot into the front wing to the extent that you may need to move your side repeaters. The hinge mechanisms need to be strong (and are usually heavy) to support the weight of the FTO door (which is actually quite a large door). It is the extra cutting into the bodyshell that would have an effect on rigidity.

There may very well be a number of different kits for the FTO doors but if there is a kit that is just a simple bolt-on then I'd be careful to ensure that it is strong and reliable enough to support the weight of the door without bending the hinges (wind, rough-use etc).

They are a good novelty factor at the moment - but from a personal perspective are a bit brash for my taste - better to spend the bucks on a retrim, brakes, suspension or engine mods. I'm not knocking anyone fitting the lambo doors - if you like them enough then it will make sense.
